It Ain't Me Babe" is a song by Bob Dylan that originally appeared on his fourth album Another Side of Bob Dylan, which was released in 1964 by Columbia Records. According to music critic Oliver Trager, this song, along with others on the album, marked a departure for Dylan as he began to explore the possibilities of language and deeper levels of the human experience. Within a year of its release, the song was picked up as a single by artists who were forging the folk rock movement, including The Turtles, The Byrds, Peter, Paul & Mary, Johnny Cash and, much later, by (gasp!) Boy George and (gaspgagchoke!) Miley Cyrus
Dylan's biographers generally agree that the song owes its inspiration to his former girlfriend Suze Rotolo. He reportedly began writing the song during his visit to Italy in 1963 while searching for Rotolo, who was studying there.]
Clinton Heylin reports that a Times reporter at a May 1964 Royal Festival Hall concert where Dylan first played "It Ain't Me" took the chorus "no, no, no" as a parody of the Beatles' "yeah, yeah, yeah" in "She Loves You".[4] The melody in both phrases uses a scale descending through a minor third. (Dylan played at the Royal Festival Hall on Sunday, May 17, 1964. The Times reviewed the performance in the following day's edition under the heading of "A Minnesota Minstrel." However, the review makes no mention of "It Ain't Me, Babe.")
(EDITED EXCERPT FROM AN ONLINE REVIEW BY WIKIPEDIA.ORG)
The PROMOTIONAL, RADIO STATION-, AUDITION OR DEMONSTRATION COPIES AND RELEASES (such as the one we have here) were routinely distributed among the radio stations before the record was released to the public, sometimes as much as 4 months ahead. These records are generally considered to be the "first among equals", which is to say the VERY FIRST generation and the VERY FIRST pressings of the particular title – A MOOT POINT IN THIS CASE, AS THIS RECORD WAS NEVER RELEASED COMMERCIALLY.

· CONDITION:
· 45-RPM SINGLE RECORD:
(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted below, ALL records are graded visually, NOT play-graded!)
(a) WE GRADE THE VINYL AS NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs - are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible, and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.
(b) PLEASE NOTE: This - of course - is an ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital, newly mastered recording!!!
· PICTURE SLEEVE
THE SLEEVE IS ABOUT VG++
(ON A SCALE FROM 1 TO 10, WE GRADE THE CONDITION OF THIS PICTURE SLEEVE AS 6.5)
- Sleeve has visible "wrinkles" across both panels (front and back)
- The sleeve has some light ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 3
- The sleeve has partially split left seams (less than 1 inch = 2.5 cm)
- Visible chipping (denting) and fraying noted along the left side, with two small tears in the paper (about 1/2 and 3/4" in length); NO part of the sleeve is missing
- Sleeve shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.
- Minor yellowish stains noted in the label area (BARELY VISIBLE)
- The sleeve has circular tarnish (grayish, dust-covered sections, which closely follow the contour of the record), probably caused by friction or by rubbing against other jacketsduring the storage. The tarnish is similar in appearance to a common ring wear, but, UNLIKE ring wear, these grayish areas may be possible to clean up with a minor effort
NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE SLEEVE
- No cut-out (drill) holes.
- No cut-out corners
- No saw-marks or indents
- No writing
- No stamps
- No peel-off marks
- No mold or mildew spots
- No stickers or labels
- No water damage
- No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or cuts.
- No warping
- No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover
- No glue traces or wax residue.
