Johnny Ace was an amazing Blues and R&B singer and pianist.
From Memphis he started hanging around and making music with a group of musicians that included BB King, Roscoe Gordon, Bobby Bland and others. They informally were called the Beale Streeters but played on each others records.
My Song was his first solo record and became his first hit topping the charts for nine weeks but it has become a Blues classic
Over the next two years he had a string of 8 or more hits. He toured often with Big Mama Thornton.
Sadly he died of a self inflicted bullet wound at age 32 fooling around with a gun.
Classic Blues record.
