Where Fortune Smiles is really a John Surman recording, but subsequent re-releases have passed the credit on to John McLaughlin.
McLaughlin's raw sound was starting to take shape by this time and his impeccable musicianship is on full display.
So too are those of the underrated vibraphonist Karl Berger and, of course, soprano saxophonist Surman.
It's a challenging listen - more free-jazz than fusion, especially given McLaughlin's later success and popularity and although his creativity would peak with the Mahavishnu Orchestra, he never sounded more free and exploratory than he does here

Clean, unmarked labels - barely a spindle trace to be seen
VINYL Visual: NEAR MINT
Both vinyl surfaces shine like new. There is a tiny pressing mark on Side Two but this is audibly insignificant
VINYL Audio: NEAR MINT
Superb sound - deep, rich and warm and my play-check at volume found little to fault - an odd one-off tick here and there but I did not deep clean this copy as it looks so immaculate so these will no doubt disappear after a clean/few spins otherwise, flawless
SLEEVE: EXCELLENT+
Apart from a touch of rubbing to the edges the sleeve is crisp, clean and unmarked
INSERT: EXCELLENT+
The gatefold insert has one crease to the top corner otherwise, like-new
