Description

JOHN SURMAN

RARE 1969 BRITISH PROGRESSIVE JAZZ UK DERAM 1st PRESSING

HOW MANY CLOUDS CAN YOU SEE?

PLAYED 3 TIMES IN 40 YEARS!

VINYL IN STUNNING MINT- CONDITION

1969 UK album release DERAM (SML-R 1045) 33.3 rpm STEREO

Stamped matrices: ZAL-8979/8980.P-1W

Made in England by The Decca Record Company Ltd

PERSONNEL: JOHN SURMAN baritone sax, soprano sax and bass clarinet HAROLD BECKETT trumpet and flugelhorn MALCOLM GRIFFITHS trombone MIKE OSBORNE alto sax ALAN SKIDMORE tenor sax JOHN TAYLOR piano HARRY MILLER bass ALAN JACKSON drums DAVE HOLDSWORTH trumpet CHRIS PYNE trombone GEORGE SMITH tuba JOHN WARREN baritone sax and flute BARRE PHILLIPS bass TONY OXLEY drums

TRACK LISTING: SIDE ONE 1. Galata Bridge 2. Caractacus 3. Premonition SIDE TWO 1. Event a) Gathering b) Ritual c) Circle Dance 2. How Many Clouds Can You See?

CONDITION: VINYL MINT- I bought this record from a jazz collector who "couldn't quite get on with the music" - in almost 40 years of ownership he had played it just twice. I have just made it three plays, and try as I might, I really can't find any fault with the vinyl. ABSOLUTELY STUNNING.

SLEEVE NEAR MINT The Clout & Baker sleeve is in beautiful condition. The laminated front cover is virtually as new, whilst the unlaminated white back cover shows minimal shelfwear.

LABELS MINT- The two red and white paper labels are both virtually AS NEW.

INNER SLEEVE EXCELLENT The die-cut polylined blue and white paper Decca stereo inner sleeve has some light creasing and discolouration and one folded corner.

THIS IS BASICALLY THE NICEST COPY THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN. SHORT OF FINDING A SEALED COPY (WERE UK DECCA LPs EVER SEALED IN 1969?) I WOULD DARE TO SUGGEST THAT THIS IS A FINAL UPGRADE COPY.

IF YOU ARE THINKING OF BIDDING PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING...

ABOUT THIS ITEM:

All vinyl is strictly graded using the Record Collector RRPG system.

All photographs are of the actual item listed above: I never use 'stock' pictures or re-use old photos of previously sold items.

This item is listed with NO RESERVE for 10 days, running from Thursday evening to Sunday evening the following week. If you wish to ask a question, or leave a message, please try to do so before the final Sunday as I will not be in front of my laptop on my day off.

THERE IS NO 'BUY IT NOW' PRICE. I always let my auctions run their full course, so please do not contact me asking if this item can be sold early. Live a little, enjoy the giddy thrill of bidding.

BIDDERS WITH ZERO (0) FEEDBACK: We all need to start somewhere but, due to an unacceptably high proportion of U.S. non-payers, I would ask all zero feedback potential buyers to EMAIL ME BEFORE BIDDING. Any bids received from zero feedback buyers who have not contacted me prior to bidding will be immediately deleted.

If you are the sucessful bidder, PLEASE WAIT FOR ME TO INVOICE YOU BEFORE YOU MAKE YOUR PAYMENT, especially if you have bought more than one item - you will be entitled to a postage discount for multiple purchases.

If you do win this item, PLEASE MAKE YOUR PAYMENT WITHIN 2 DAYS of receiving your invoice. If you are unable to pay within 48 hours then please contact me as soon as possible after the auction has finished - communication is everything.

PAYMENT WILL ONLY BE ACCEPTED IN UK STERLING. Whilst PayPal is my preferred method of payment, I am happy to accept UK personal cheques (but only with bank guarantee card details written on the back), sterling Postal or Money Orders, and most international credit or debit cards. I cannot accept cash payments unless they are offered in person upon collection or delivery.

All items will be posted within 48 hours of full payment being received or cleared - in practice, most are despatched on the same day.

POSTAGE & PACKING DETAILS:

All records will be removed from their outer sleeves, and then placed in a polythene sleeve, before being carefully packed WITH TWO CARDBOARD STIFFENERS and posted in strong new Covers 33 mailers (although I do try to re-use good quality heavyweight packaging whenever practical). Please try to recycle the packing cardboard if possible - it might just help to offset the damage done when it was originally manufactured. Alternatively, throw it away and set fire to a couple of old tyres.

Certificates of Posting are obtained for all packets despatched, without exception.

I CAN ACCEPT NO LIABILITY FOR ANY ITEMS THAT MAY BE LOST OR DAMAGED IN THE POST

I always strongly recommend that you select the insured option for postage irrespective of the value of the contents. Naturally, I will happily provide buyers with any necessary paperwork in the event of them having to make a claim against Royal Mail, but if you do not select the insured option, and your parcel is damaged or goes missing in the post, then you will not be entitled to any compensation, it's that simple.

METHODS OF POSTING

PACKETS UNDER £36

UK buyers - Royal Mail First Class service (no insurance)

Overseas buyers - Standard Airmail (Small Packets) service (no insurance)

PACKETS £36 - £500

UK buyers - Special Delivery Next Day (1pm) service (inc. insurance)

Overseas buyers - Royal Mail International Signed For (Small Packets) service (inc. insurance)

PACKETS OVER £500

I will contact you to see if you wish to use a courier service.

NO EXCEPTIONS!

Please do not ask me to send expensive items by the cheapest service available as I will not do so. Bitter experience has taught me that it is a nightmare to resolve to everyone's satisfaction if the postal service lets us down. If you are not prepared to pay for the correct postal service then PLEASE DO NOT BID ON THIS ITEM.

Please see below to find the exact Post & Packing charge for this item.

ABOUT ME:

If you haven't done business with me before my name is ANDY HIBBERD and I own a "bricks and mortar" record shop called 101 COLLECTORS RECORDS in Farnham, Surrey, about an hour out of central London.

I deal in old and collectable records, CDs, DVDs and music memorabilia in most genres, as well as new vinyl and CD releases and re-issues. 95% of my business is done in the shop, with my eBay sales offering just a, hopefully tantalising, taste of my overall stock. Please feel free to get in touch if you need any further information about this item, if you have any questions about what's currently in stock, or if you need any advice about selling a collection.

I am always happy to receive your Wants Lists, but I sometimes file them carefully under bits of paper, which are in turn under slightly larger pieces of paper, that aren't always where I thought I had left them. This could be blamed on incompetence on my part, but I prefer to blame it on the pixies that clearly infest my shop and move things about after I have gone home, the little bastards. However, I will do my very best to find what you want a) immediately, b) the day after you have found it elsewhere, or c) about a year after you have quite frankly lost the will to live.

That said, I do appreciate your interest in this listing, especially during these troubled times. If you are thinking of bidding, please make sure that you have read the description and P&P costs carefully, and take the time to look at my Returns Policy. Also, please check out my Feedback comments and past sales - I am not an anonymous internet seller but a responsible (pixies permitting) and contactable UK record dealer. You can bid with confidence.

Thank you.

Andy

GOOD LUCK AND GOOD BIDDING.
