A highly unusual, unauthorized, and sought-after Record Album sold on TV in early February 1975. Only about 3000 were released. This all had to do with a lawsuit John eventually won and prompted his rush-release of the "Rock-and Roll" Album (on 2/17/75).

The "Roots" album was heavily counterfeited and distinguishing between a real one & a fake can be tricky.

COVER

1. The Spine reads "Great" (not greatest).

2. You can see John's shoulder in the lower-right corner (most counterfeits lose the shoulder).

3. Cover construction is white poster-board not brown cardboard (look inside cover).

4. Printing is clear and decent (though not top-quality).

5. Spelling is accurate (e.g. "stereo" not "estero")

RECORD

1. Orange Label, average weight vinyl.

2. Normal size Labels.

3. Catalog # A 8018 etched into trail-off area.

4. "Bell sound" stamped into trail-off area.


These points will identify an original from a fake in the great majority of cases,

however, the observations & attributes listed above are not exhaustive.
