Review from another site: Originally released in 1989, The Healer was a major comeback for John Lee Hooker. Featuring a wide array of guest stars, including Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt, Canned Heat, Robert Cray, Los Lobos and more, The Healer captured widespread media attention because of all the superstar musicians involved in its production. Certainly there are moments were it clicks, but that's usually when the music doesn't greatly expand on his stripped-down boogie. It's a pleasant listen, but one gets the impression that no one was trying to break any new ground.  That said, this is John Lee Hooker after all.  How do you improve on that?  The album is rated 4.8 / 5 on that website named after a river.
