Description

The John Dummer Band made a lesser name for themselves but made far better british blues rock albums. This selftitled 1969 album is a splendid record with tough and confident playing and singing and even a production sound beyound the standard of those days. The vinyl is hard to find, but CD re-issues are available - also as a 2fer combination with the earlier "Cabal" album that is almost just as good an album. The group was fronted by guitarist and vocalist was Dave Kelly later to form The Blues Band that released a number of equally musically competent but less sparkling albums in the early 80's. But the band was after all named after drummer John Dummer for a reason. What IMO makes this album better than anyone recorded by Fleetwood Mac is mainly that John Dummer Band has the accent on the rhythm section and not on the lead-guitarist. Too many UK bluerock outfits were too much about white kids turning blues into a quest for guitar-hero stardom and too little about having a ball. Not this band. They roll, thunder and keep up an impressive pulse that makes this record very enjoyable - very dancable - and summing up the best of late 60's UK blues. Very recommendable.
