UK MONO FIRST PRESSING VINYL LP ON GROOVED RED/SILVER LONDON/ATLANTIC LABEL IN ORIGINAL THIN FRONT LAMINATED SLEEVE (NO ORIGINAL INNER SLEEVE, JUST NEW POLY-LINED ONE).
This particular copy bears 1 / U mothers/stampers, and as this was pressed by Decca in the UK, this means it is only the second stamper used for the album. Many B stampers (the first ones) were only ever used on test pressings or promos, so it is quite possible this is the first commercially available stamper issued - we have never seen anything earlier than a B.
Why buy a first or early pressing and not a re-issue or a ‘re-mastered’ vinyl album?
First pressings are made from first generation lacquers and stampers. They usually sound vastly superior to later issues and re-issues (which are often pressed from whatever tapes or digital sources are currently available). First or early pressings nearly always have more immediacy, presence and dynamics. The sound staging is wider and subtle instrument nuances are better placed with more spacious textures. Balances are firmer in the bottom end with a far-tighter bass. Upper-mid ranges shine without harshness, and the overall depth is more immersive, with inner details more clearer. On first and early pressings, the music tends to sound more ‘alive’ and vibrant.
MATRIX NUMBERS IN RUN-OFF GROOVES: SIDE A: AML - 1608 - 1B ET / SIDE B: AML - 1609 - 1B ET.

SLEEVE: VERY GOOD+ FRONT, VERY GOOD REAR. THIS LIGHT, FRAGILE SLEEVE IS OFTEN TORN AND DAMAGED, BUT THIS IS A FAIRLY DECENT EXAMPLE WITH SOME BLEMISHES. FRONT HAS GOOD, STRONG LAMINATE, AND ONE SMALL PEN MARK NEAR THE LONDON LOGO TOP RIGHT. SPINE VERY GOOD+ WITH A FEW CREASES, NO FADING. REAR HAS MINOR RING, CORNER AND EDGE WEAR, BUT DOES HAVE SOME SCUFF STAINS AND A SMALL STAIN TOP RIGHT CORNER. TWO INCH PEN MARK NEAR EDGE.
DISC: VISUALLY A VERY STRONG VERY GOOD+ [JUST SHORT OF EXCELLENT MINUS] THAT PLAYS EXCELLENT MINUS THROUGHOUT. NO SCRATCHES OR SCUFFS. MINOR SPINDLE WEAR, SOME LIGHT HAIRLINES. CLEAN LABELS. DISC PLAYS AND SOUNDS SUPERB. IF YOU CANNOT AFFORD AN ORIGINAL USA BLACK LABEL COPY THESE DAYS, THIS MAKES A VERY DECENT SECOND BEST.
