A super nice copy of the 1968 reissue of Coltrane's ground breaking 1960 classic "Giant Steps". The record is pristine, not a single mark on it and plays perfectly with no surface noise and sounds superb. The jacket is beautiful with only a slight trace of wear.
Added note, The New York Times Magazine feature “The Day the Music Burned” by Jody Rosen published June 11 has brought to light important details about the inferno that destroyed an invaluable popular music archive in 2008 at Universal Studios in Hollywood and the subsequent the cover-up of the disaster by Universal Music Group (UMG). Based on interviews with Randy Aronson, the former senior director of vault operations at UMG who was intimately familiar with the West Coast archive, something in the range of 175,000 master tapes, including approximately 500,000 individual songs, including alternate takes, original studio session notes and transfers to high-res digital files were lost in the fire.
A June 1, 2008, New York Times article quoted Universal representatives as saying the blaze was a close call and only a few video and television images were lost. “In no case was the destroyed material the only copy of a work,” the report said. Intercompany memo's show that UMG's management has been attempting to cover up the extent of the loss ever since.
The day after the New York Times Magazine exposé was published, musicians and managers reacted with bewilderment, frustration and anger. For example, Irving Azoff, the manager of the jazz rock group Steely Dan, said: “We have been aware of ‘missing’ original Steely Dan tapes for a long time now. We’ve never been given a plausible explanation. Maybe they burned up in the big fire. In any case, it’s certainly a lost treasure.”
After several very recent lawsuits were filed on behalf of groups of musicians, UMG's CEO issued a statement saying that they would be more transparent with and offer compensation to artists for the losses, but at the same time certain legal constraints prevent any information being released to the public.
Reports indicate the loss of the entire Billie Holiday catalog on Decca, John Coltrane's work on Atlantic and Impulse, most of the Chess Records catalog, and all the way up to works by Nirvana and Nine Inch Nails.
