WOW!! For sale is an insanely rare private pressing of Joey Garone - Waves Of Time!! These are ridiculously hard to find- nearly impossible. This is not a “country” album as the cover might lead you to believe. Instead it is a wonderfully strange and mysterious outsider psych/folk/rock album from 1981. See beneath grading for a quite good and accurate review I found online. The closest thing I can think of to compare it to is Kurt Vile. It’s ridiculously cool.

I GRADE ACCURATELY and FAIRLY:

Sleeve: VG to VG-

Private pressing sleeves are notoriously fragile and prone to wear. Despite that, this is a very presentable sleeve which does have some wear including some discoloration on rear…a couple of light wrinkles on the top right slick, but no real creases…a few wavy spots also on the rear and one on front. Bottom left corner seams are worn and chipping but not split there…in fact, the seams are mostly good with only a small 1/2” split along the top opening edge. Nothing major though and overall quite acceptable! No writing or intentional marks. See pics.

Disc: Strong VG+

BEAUTIFUL disc retains its original glossy sheen. Grading is done under bright lighting- so there are a few light superficial marks visible when tilted under bright light but no real scratches or scuffs…absolutely nothing feelable. Looks and plays great!!

Labels: EX

SUPERB labels have no unwanted writing. Side 1 has no spindle traces, Side 2 label has a few light spindle traces when tilted under bright light but overall BEAUTIFUL labels with no unwanted writing and very little evidence of play.

Original generic inner sleeve will be included.

Joey Garone "Waves Of Time" (1981) (LP)

You'd be forgiven for thinking (as I did) that this is an old indie-twang album, what with Mr. Garone pictured on the cover, clad in denim, sporting aviator glasses and several massive turquoise rings, and of course a cowboy-ish Panama hat... But in fact, this is a really weird, sorta-folk/sorta-rock album, full of bizarre, rambling lyrics and strange, possibly drugged-out preoccupations and obsessions galore. It's not a country album -- consider this fair warning -- but for folks who enjoy kooky, outsider-art bizarro records, this one's a doozy. The opening track, "Gasoline Junkies," isn't quite the earnest critique of our petrochemically propelled populace that you'd expect, but rather an opening salvo for a very odd album, with Garone musing authoritatively about UFOs, including the ones he says he's seen with his own eyes. Despite this album being pirated and sampled by numerous interwebsters, its origins remain obscure -- there's no discographical info on the album itself, or even a mention of where Garone was living when he made it. (Off the grid, perhaps? In a tinfoil-lined shack?) It's possible that the low-level notoriety of this LP inspired the character of nightclub singer Joey Garone in the 2009 feature film, "Once More With Feeling," but that's mostly just me speculating in the absence of fact. Anyone out there have real info about this guy? If so, I'd be much obliged!

Grading System:

SS (Still Sealed)

Unopened records, still in original shrink wrap. In original manufactured condition unless otherwise noted (i.e. evidence of mildew or bent corners, etc.)

M (Mint)

The record and sleeve are in perfect, original condition. The record may have been played but will have no evidence of deterioration. (I will only use this grade on SEALED records that appear to be Mint as I believe any non-new, opened record cannot be truly called MINT.

NM (Near Mint)

A nearly perfect record. Any visible defects are of the type that "disappear" when the record is tilted under a strong light and they should not affect play. Sleeves in near mint condition will have no obvious signs of wear. Practically imperceptible ring wear may be allowed but no creases, seam-splits, or other easily detected flaws will be present.

EX (Excellent)

A very clean record. Near mint except for slight, superficial signs of wear. Sleeves in this condition may have marginal defects, but will not have significant creases or splits.

VG+ (Very Good Plus)

A well-cared-for record that is noticeably less than perfect, but defects are not visually or audibly distracting. Record surfaces may have slight scuffs or light scratches, but are still primarily clean. Sleeves may have some creases or minor ring wear, but should not be split.

VG (Very Good)

A used, reasonable copy to play. Many of the defects found in a VG+ copy will be more pronounced in VG condition. Surface noise may be evident and sleeves may look worn, but the record is still a decent copy.

G (Good)

A well-worn record that is still playable. Good does not necessarily mean "bad" but a record in this condition will have audible distractions and may have visible groove wear. Sleeves may have all manner of defects, but are still intact.

FA (Fair) and P (Poor)

These grades are for beat-up records. I will only sell records in these grades if they are extremely rare and sought-after.
