Description
Joe Morello, Jazz sextet, drum breaks, big band, rare, Mint, Cutout LP
This is an unusual LP by Joe Morello, one of the best drummers in the planet, and the driving percussive force behind Dave Brubeck and countless recordings. Joe Morello, the amazing drummer with the Dave Brubeck Quartet, recorded three solo albums with small ensembles. In 1966 he recorded this LP for Bluebird, a division of RCA. The famous drummer plays with his sextet, and a big band in a recording that was in storage in the RCA and Bluebird vaults for 30 years.
This is also an audiophile recording…you know how good the RCA Living Stereo recordings are…well this is one of them. The channel separation and stage image on tracks like "Shortin' Bread" and "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" are outstanding. I used this LP to demo my tube pre-amplifiers. A "must have" for any drummer and percussion student. The LP is factory sealed and contains tracks never released before.
Joe Morello is a jazz drummer best known for his twelve and a half-year stint with The Dave Brubeck Quartet. He is frequently noted for playing in the unusual time signatures employed by that group in such pieces as "Take Five" and "Blue Rondo à la Turk.” He worked with numerous notable jazz musicians including Johnny Smith, Tal Farlow, Stan Kenton, Phil Woods, Sal Salvador, Marian McPartland, Jay McShann, Art Pepper, Howard McGhee, and others. Morello later became an in-demand clinician, teacher and bandleader whose former students include Danny Gottlieb, Max Weinberg, Gary Feldman, Patrick Wante and Rich Galichon. Throughout his career, Morello appeared on over 120 albums, 60 of which were with the Dave Brubeck Quartet.
The tracks are:
Side One
Shortin' Bread
When Johnny Comes Marching Home
Brother Jack
Every Time We Say Goodbye
Just In Time
That's The Way It Goes
Shimwa
Side Two
The Carioca
It's Easy
Summertime
A Little Bit Of Blues
Every Time
Sounds Of The Loop
This LP is the rarest recording by Joe Morello, the hardest to get, and one of the best recorded LPs by this fantastic drummer. A must for all drummers, percussion students, and a perfect demo LP for fancy stereo equipments. How many times have you seen it in eBay? Do you know what is harder to get than this LP?....the CD of this recording. I have never seen it in a auction.
