This is a milestone in the history of popular music: The first Bossa Nova album - here in the ULTRA RARE first pressing, hard cover.

This debut album from João Gilberto was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. In the same year, it was made an inaugural member of the Latin Grammy Hall of Fame. It was listed by Rolling Stone Brazil as number 4 of the 100 best Brazilian albums in history (it surely is one of the most important albums of Brazilian popular music).

AllMusic says: "The dozen songs ... introduce several of bossa nova's most beloved trademarks: breezy, soothing melodies and vocals; tight arrangements with seamless blends of clipped guitar strokes and light orchestration, and, of course, the bossa nova rhythm." Gilberto shines with his distinctive soft voice and his likewise distinctive syncopated guitar playing, which became a trademark of Bossa Nova.

Compositions by Antonio Carlos Jobim (who is also producer, musical director, arranger and piano player here), Carlos Lyra, Dorival Caymmi, Ary Barroso, Gilberto himself, and others. ULTRA RARE original Brazil LP, very FIRST PRESSING, HARD COVER edition, without the white circle around the labels, original inner sleeve. Cover has some seam splits on top, spine and bottom, stains, small scuffs on the front cover, a signature and a small pen line on the back cover (see pictures) = VG

The record has only very occasional surface noise, for seconds only, minimal crackling in seconds of one track, besides that the record plays absolutely excellent! = E+
