Jimmy Rabbit was one of my favorite DJ's over at KLIF Radio in Dallas. He came out of Tyler, Texas in 1961 working for KGKB, but was on the road in '62 to Corpus Christi, then Port Arthur, then back to Tyler. In 1964 he came to big time KLIF in Dallas just in time for the British Invasion. He not only dug the sounds from England, he was also big into promoting local acts like the 5 Americas, Mouse 7 the Traps, The Sir Douglas Quintet and the 13th Floor Elevators.
His numbers made him one of the top DJs in town, and he was not only playing the records, he started creating them too! This single was the first of them and is from March of 1965. Not so unlikely, it even got into the charts at KLIF and rose to #13 on the chart.
The question is… who is that band on the record? It could be any number of musicians who owed Rabbit a favor. It could be members of the Exotics, the Wind, perhaps Mouse & The Traps or even Kenny & The Kasuals. Nobody seems to know and Jimmy isn't telling.
This single is rarely seen outside of Dallas, and doesn't even turn up here in nice shape very often. It's flipped with "Wait And See."
