The Jimi Hendrix Experience : Electric Ladyland

This very early pressing plays with stunning audio for the vast majority and a full grading is detailed below.  This comes with fully laminated gatefold with white text (blue text first pressing is pure speculation!) and is in very good condition.

As with these early pressings Side A & D are on Record One and Side B & C are on Record Two - to be played on an original stacking system.

The audio on Side B is Near Mint (track 5 is Ex)

The audio on Side C is Near Mint (Mint- for the majority)

 Visual grading

  Both vinyl are visually stunning and there are no scratches at all.  They have been so carefully handled down the years and each side has a minimal number of very faint sleeve removal hairlines.  There is one long faint hairline across Side C but this has no affect on the audio and actually grades as Near Mint such is the superb audio quality.  There is not too much spindle wear so it has not been played excessively.  This is probably the cleanest early pressing I have ever seen.

Play grading

There is a few seconds of crackle on the Side A intro but it soon plays very clearly and once the vocal begins on 'Electric Ladyland' the audio is of excellent quality, just the odd very light static sound.  'Crosstown Traffic' has stunning audio with only a little static at the end.  'Voodoo Chile' has some light static on the intro but there are no clicks or pops.  Overall this classic impresses with incredible depth and clarity with barely any 'background'.  This really is a superb version.  Yes a hint of static every now and then and a little crackle on the outro but nothing what you would call intrusive.  The many quiet sections play with supreme clarity.   

Side B is sublime from start to finish.  Again there are no clicks or pops and the depth and strength of the recording is just so apparent.  As a great example of the quality on offer not even the fade outs have any 'background'!  There is perhaps some distortion on 'Burning of The Midnight Lamp' but this is common on final tracks with albums from any era.

'Rainy Day, Dream Away' on Side C is absolutely stunning throughout and there is not one iota of interference to be heard.  Again the extended fade out has no 'background'.  The classic '1983...' is another incredible highlight and plays to near perfection.  Even the mega quiet long psychedelic section exudes quality, just 3/4 light dust ticks.  The clarity here is breathtaking, it plays practically as new and is Mint- without doubt.  I cannot believe what I'm hearing!  The sonic quality is evident through to the end of the side.  Wow!

'Still Raining, Still Dreaming' has very light static on the intro and then impresses with 'high end' audio.  When the bass comes in the music is stunning and there is no distortion whatsoever.  The guitar work is sublime and the quality of the vinyl here is just incredible.  The more I listen to this album the more distinctive it sounds.  'House Burning Down' also plays with very distinctive audio and no clicks or pops although I would say there is a little distortion perhaps but nothing intrusive.  This version of 'All Along The Watchtower' is so strong and there is no interference.  Again the power of the guitar, both lead and bass, play with such definition and clarity this truly is a superb version.  The 'Voodoo Chile' reprise completes the album in supreme style with incredible power again.  There is some distortion on the top level but it isn't intrusive and is generally found on the early pressings anyway.  A fantastic sound nonetheless.

In summary the audio on this classic double album is very impressive indeed.  The only crackle is at the start and end of Side A (not loud!) and the clarity and precision throughout is breathtaking.  For such an early pressing not to have any clicks or pops is a rarity and the audio for the vast majority is of a very high standard and would not disappoint the keen collector.

Gatefold cover

The laminated E.J. Day cover (with white text) has some shelf wear but remains in very good condition.  The top and bottom edges are very clean with hardly any rubbing but there is some obvious wear on the corners and one area of wear on the spine.  The laminate is generally in excellent order with no splits (aside from the spine) just some light creases around the edges and some more obvious creasing bottom right.  There is no writing or marking anywhere and the front and back covers are very clean but with some light ringwear.  The inside of the gatefold is in excellent condition with only light creasing in a couple of areas.  The opening edges have a little handling wear with a little more on the second one.

Inner sleeves

I'm not entirely sure if these are the originals but the poly-lined 'Plastic Bags...' inners remain in excellent condition nonetheless with no splits and only light creasing.

The labels

They are very clean with no writing/marking and not a great deal of spindle wear either as stated.  What spindle wear you can see is mainly centred around the spindle hole.
