THERE ARE A FEW DETAILS TO NOTE ABOUT THIS LP HOWEVER, SOME OF WHICH I DO NOT UNDERSTAND:-
1) FIRSTLY IT IS A COMPLETE MYTH THAT FULLY LAMINATED COVERS WERE THE 'EARLIEST' 1ST PRESSINGS - THEY DEFINITELY WERENT. THOUGH OF COURSE, THEY ARE THE RAREST!!!! THEY WERE EARLY FOR SURE, BUT I HAVE FOUND THEM WITH VARIOUS DIFFERENT DATE CODED INNERS. IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT 'E.J.DAY' (WHO MADE THIS COVER) ALSO MADE CREAM'S FULLY LAMINATED 'DISRAELI GEARS' AT THE SAME TIME - AND I BELIEVE A FEW OF THESE COVERS WERE FULLY LAMINATED BY MISTAKE. THE SAME IS ALSO TRUE OF 'BUFFALO SPRINGFIELD AGAIN' THE FOLLOWING YEAR IN 1968. THE COVER FOR THAT LP WAS PLAIN WHITE ON THE REVERSE (SO CERTAINLY NO NEED FOR A FULL LAMINATE!), AND AGAIN THAT COVER WAS MADE BY 'E.J.DAY' AND AGAIN SOME COVERS WERE FULLY LAMINATED IN ERROR. SO THIS FULLY LAMINATED COVER FOR THIS JIMI HENDRIX LP IS DEFINITELY THE RAREST FOR SURE!!!! BUT THERE IS ZERO EVIDENCE THAT IT WAS EVER THE EARLIEST, AND I BELIEVE IT WAS COMPLETELY RANDOM.
2) SECONDLY THIS COVER IS SMALLER THAN THE OTHER JIMI HENDRIX I HAVE LISTED. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY? THE RECORD AND INNER STILL SLIDE PERFECTLY INTO THE COVER, BUT THE COVER IS TIGHTER - MUCH LIKE DECCA COVERS FROM THIS PERIOD.
3) ALTHOUGH THE COVER BACK IS DEFINITELY 'FACTORY LAMINATED' (NO BUBBLES, NO LAMINATE CREASES, LAMINATE SHRINKAGE ON THE CREASE LINES, LAMINATE GLAZING UNDER LIGHT, NO YELLOWING ETC), THERE IS RUBBING UNDER THE LAMINATE. I HAVE SEEN THIS PREVIOUSLY ON U.S. COVERS WHICH HAVE CLEARLY NEVER BEEN OPENED AND ARE FULLY SHRINKWRAPPED - YET THEY HAVE RUBBING UNDER THE SHRINK. SO I BELIEVE THE LAMINATE TO BE GENIUNE (AND NOT SOME HOME MADE BODGE JOB), YET I CANNOT EXPLAIN THE RUBBING.
4) I BELIEVE THIS LP HAS BEEN THROUGH MULTIPLE DEALERS HANDS IN THE PAST, AS THEY IS SOME 'TOUCHING IN' AND SOME POSSIBLE TRIMMING TO THE OPENING EDGE.
DESPITE THESE DETAILS - THIS LP IS SO VERY VERY RARE LIKE THIS - AND THE CHANCES OF EVER FINDING ANOTHER ONE, IS VIRTUALLY ZERO!!!!
THIS IS THE ORIGINAL 1967 UK MONO 1ST PRESSING ON THE 1ST PRESS TRACK LABELS, 1ST PRESS A1/B1 MONO MATRIX ENDINGS, 1ST PRESS INNER SLEEVE, AND 1ST PRESS 'E.J.DAY' FULLY LAMINATED 'PATENTS PENDING' MONO COVER!!!! THIS LP IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND LIKE THIS - SO DONT MISS OUT ON THIS AMAZING OPPORTUNITY!!!! This is the ORIGINAL Track UK 1st Pressing from 1967!!!! The record is pressed on THICK quality vinyl. The Cat. No is 612 001 on the 1st Press Track label (see picture) and is a UK MONO 1st pressing!!!!
The record labels are in SUPERB condition (see pictures) with NO wear, NO writing, and only a few light spindle marks!!!! The vinyl is still VERY bright & shiny indeed!!!! However, it does have some some scufflines & hairlines to either side - though the majority of the record still looks nice, and is JET BLACK and NOT grey and lifeless!!!! THE RECORD STILL RETAINS ITS ORIGINAL JUST PRESSED LOOK!!!! The record also plays through FINE - with absolutely NO sticks, NO skips, NO jumps, and there are even barely ANY clicks AT ALL!!!! However, this record does play with audible surface noise, though this can be considerably lessened by dropping the treble. There is also NO distortion and NO groovewear either!!!! In this case (though many would grade higher), I have no other option but to grade the record Fair - which is the lowest possible grading for a record that does not jump. Most would grade this record Good+, and I have seen MANY records like this graded Very Good in the past. However, it is far better to grade as strictly as I can to avoid ANY disappointment!!!! So I will not be tempted to go any higher than Fair. Believe me this record is NOT overgraded in ANY way!!!! I use STRICT RC grading standards - it is not in my interest not to!!!! Brillant!!!! The record comes in its ORIGINAL 1st Press inner sleeve which is in BRILLIANT condition!!!! The ORIGINAL 1st Press 'E.J.Day' FULLY Laminated 'Patents Pending' MONO Cover is in GREAT condition!!!! The cover has NO edge wear (apart from some 'touching in' to the bottom edge), NO edge splits, NO spine splits, only VERY slight corner wear (NOT through the colour!), 3 or 4 half-moon type creases towards the right, only a few VERY light creases elsewhere (cover is VERY flat looking!), NO rips, NO tears, only some very VERY minor evidence of 'tipping in' to the corners, shiny laminate, NO annotations, and NO writing!!!! There also some 'touching up' to the spine (clear in colour so NOT noticeable!) - though the spine is clearly 100% solid and has never been split, so I am not sure why. The opening edge is beautifully straight with barely ANY feathering AT ALL (though as I said above there is evidence of 'trimming' here!)!!!! Even the laminated back of the cover is in GREAT condition with NO grubbyness, slight rubbing under the laminate, NO yellowing, NO sticker tears, and NO writing!!!! The cover must grade Very Good(Minus) (PROPERLY graded, NOT trashed!) if not better - and is still a very VERY presentable cover indeed!!!! THIS LP IS SERIOUSLY RARE AND VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE TO LOCATE (ESPECIALLY WITH A FULLY LAMINATED COVER!) - SO DONT MISS OUT ON THIS INCREDIBLE OPPORTUNITY!!!!
