DOLLY DAGGER/STAR SPANGLED BANNER (Experience Hendrix #1044 1st pressing colored vinyl with picture sleeve, 2006): UNPLAYED MINT.
It's sadly ironic that production of the Jimi Hendrix double album First Rays Of The New Rising Sun was ended by his death. Rather than the optimistic, forward-looking theme and music that Jimi planned for the proposed LP, his manager used much of the material for the murky 1971 Rainbow Bridge album and film.
Dolly Dagger was supposed to be issued to promote First Rays; the song was inspired by supergroupie Devon Wilson, who'd entangled with Jimi and many others. The title of Hendrix' song pays backhanded homage to Mick Jagger, another of Devon's conquests, after an incident at Jimi's birthday party. Mick cut his finger, and Ms. Wilson ran over and sucked the blood from the wound; hence Jimi's lyric "she drinks her blood from a jagged edge". "Dolly" only outlived Hendrix by a few months, falling to her death from the Chelsea Hotel in 1971.
This special edition 45 is from the Jimi Hendrix Classic Singles Collection Vol. 2 (2006), and is otherwise unavailable. The 10 colored vinyls from the box set are insanely scarce; only 1000 collectors can ever hope to own this 45. This record is fully authorized by Jimi's family; it's not a fake or repro, and is UNPLAYED MINT. The company that issued this set went out of business in 2010, so there won't be any reissues. These singles are seldom seen for individual sale; good luck finding anybody else offering them outside the limited edition, numbered box set...One only...don't miss it!
