Description

JIMI HENDRIX - " BAND OF GYPSYS (BAND OF GYPSIES) ", Track/Polydor Records Ltd. (2406 002) Stereo, 1970.

Very rare, English, original 1970 1st issue of this rare Hendrix LP.

This first issue is marked out by the 'puppet sleeve' which was quickly withdrawn and replaced, the title on the sleeve is "Band of Gypsys" as opposed to the correctly spelt "Band of Gypsies" on the LP labels and the matrix numbers on the record ending in A1 and B1.

Matrix Numbers

Side A = 2406002   A > 1
Side B = 2406002   B = 1

Professionally cleaned on my Moth record cleaning machine and put in a new poly-lined inner sleeve (with the original retained to keep it complete, of course).

CONDITION:

VINYL  =  EX- (No deep scratches, groove damage, excessive surface noise, distortion, etc. Cleanish labels with light to average spindle trails. Under a bright grading lamp there are a few paper scuffs and some light hairline surface marks, plus one other slightly more pronounced fine scratch near the beginning of the second side - predictably the paper scuffs and the finest of hairline marks do not sound on playback, perhaps more surprisingly, the other light mark is also not affecting playback on my turntable at least. During the silences before and between tracks, there is a little bit of faint surface noise which disappears once the music gets going. I also heard just a couple of faint background clicks as the record played out in it's entirety. The music still plays clearly and strongly and definitely has not been overplayed or worn out. Overall then, it's not quite perfect and no museum piece, but it still has plenty of life left in it. Would be a great record for somebody to play and enjoy as originally intended... certainly much better than a sterile CD reissue.

Note: for the purposes of this listing I have tested this LP on my Linn LP12 Sondek turntable - generally this is quite a critical test, but I must point out that I cannot guarantee exactly how this LP will sound on your turntable - common sense for most... but then this is ebay!!!)

SLEEVE =  EX- (No big creases, rips, tears, defacing, etc. In reasonably good shape, just some light wear visible to the edges and corners, plus a few lighter creases eminating from the edges of the sleeve. Also, there are a couple of grubby areas and other light normal signs of wear - see photos for further clarification)

NOTE: I must point out that we are actually a long standing physical record shop, with many decades worth of selling, trading and grading records under our collective belts. Unlike so many of the jokers now selling records on ebay, we know how to grade records. Before bidding, please read my description carefully, decide how much this record is worth to you and place you max bid accordingly. Please also feel free to check out my feedback from the many other successful transactions I have made in the past.
