Description
Jethro Tull 'Thick As A Brick' 1972 UK original album on the Chrysalis green label with Island white i logo, catalogue number CHR 1003 (stereo)
The numbers and letters stamped on the vinyl are:- Side 1: CHR 1003 A-3U 1 MM PORKY (the name is hand etched) Side 2: CHR 1003 B-2U 1 OM PECKO (the name is hand etched)
This is a heavy vinyl and it is not warped as such, but there is a very slight lift just at the edge which does NOT affect play in any way. Even under a strong light there are only very few scratches or bag marks visible. The record does not seem to have been played very often at all. About two minutes into Side 1 there is a small mark that causes some ticks, on and off, for about a minute but they are not serious. Also at the end of Side 1 there are a few ticks on the last grooves. Side 2 is very clean. There are no sticks, no skips, no jumps and generally the audio is brilliant.
The whole record has just one track 'Thick As A Brick' as shown on the label photographs. I cannot see any spindle lines on the labels at all, no writing, no damage, they look nearly new.
The cover is a modified gatefold, made from a thick, soft, untreated card, which opens up like a broadsheet newspaper and it contains a stapled in newspaper with a fictional content. The whole thing is generally very clean and tidy, although the top edge of the inside pages is a little frayed and the centre page is only just held in by the staples. There is some general discolouration, corner and general wear, but overall this is a very good cover. The join-the-dots in the newspaper has been connected up faintly in pencil, but it's barely visible. Overall it looks like a well preserved newspaper, in much better condition than you might expect after more than 40 years...and it's a really good read!
The spine has been rubbed away a little bit, but you can still read the group name and the title (just) - the catalogue number is faint, but it's half there - I think it's in reasonable shape.
I think the inner sleeve is the original - it is plain cream paper, which has gone a bit brown, with 'Made In England' and a patent number on it. It's a bit creased, but fully intact, no seam splits, no tears.
I've checked the Record Collector grading system and I would say the cover is 'very good+', the record is 'excellent' and the audio is 'excellent', all bar a few light ticks as mentioned.
I have described this as carefully and honestly as possible, but it is a no return item so please bid accordingly.
It will be packed in a record mailing box with two pieces of card inside for further protection.
