ALBUM AND RELEASE INFORMATION(courtesy vinyl asylum)

The Classic Records reissue of Aqualung was cut from the original analog master tapes obtained from Ian Anderson on Classic's "all tube" cutting system by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman mastering. This version features, for the first time since the original Chrysalis release, an authentic faux linen textured gatefold jacket and original label art. Now Available on 45rpm as a Four Disc Box Set, pressed on Classic’s Clarity 200g Super Vinyl Profile this will be the definitive version - period!

Production notes:
Clarity Vinyl represents the ultimate in vinyl formulations because it is comprised of over 90% percentage of the highest quality co-polymer available - a key component in vinyl pellets used for manufacturing vinyl records. Further, Clarity Vinyl has no carbon black additive, common in vinyl formulas for LP’s. Carbon Black contains trace metals that become magnetized and cause “electrical distortions” in cartridges during playback that smears the sound. By taking out the Carbon Black, Classic Records is able to dramatically reduce the “electrical distortions” and thus bring more “Clarity” to the playback process, providing a more realistic musical experience to the listener and LP enthusiast.

The box set comes with four single sided 45 RPM LPs pressed on clarity vinyl. Clarity vinyl is a translucent milky colored vinyl that is supposed to have better S/N and pressing characteristics. Each LP is in a thick poly sleeve with a piece of bubble pack at the bottom of the box suporting the stack of four LPs.

On top of the four LPs is the very nicely recreated gatefold Aqualung cover, a feedback card, some marketing stuff, another piece of bubble pack and the top cover on the red box.

The box is bright red with a black label on the bottom outside edge of the box indicating its contents. There is a white belt around the middle of the box affixed with an adhesive dot. The box comes shrink wrapped but it would be a good idea to store this box in a nice poly sleeve made for box sets.

The pressing quality of each LP is excellent, the labels are well centered, the clarity vinyl is indeed very quiet and the sonics are...well this is the one.

I have several copies of Aqualung which includes Classics 33RPM reissue from last year. That 33RPM reissue was pretty much the best pressing of Aqualung available. This 45 RPM box set slams the door on the 33 RPM pressing and not by a small degree.

I sat down with a clipboard and started trying to outline what those differences were (between the Classic 33RPM and 45 RPM box set). After three tracks I stopped. Each and every track is better by a large enough degree to make any detailed comparison a waste of time.

If you love this album, own a quality analog rig and care about hearing the best pressing of Aqualung...here it is.
