MEGARARE original Philips Records very first Stereo PROMOTIONAL press, released in Chile in 1966, with UNUSUAL blue/silver Philips Records labels, made and distributed by Discos Philips (Philips Records Chile), catalog number 843462, with machine etched matrix numbers CAA 843 462 2Y 2 670 113 C1 in Side 1 and C AA 843 462 2Y 1 670 112 C1 in Side 2. Yes Sirs, WHAT A FIND!!! Another rare Chilean press of a great album!!! And this is an authentic PROMOTIONAL issue with the MEGARARE white sticker “INVENDIBLE - DISCO PROMOCIONAL” (UNSALEABLE – PROMOTIONAL RECORD)!!!

“MEMPHIS BEAT” was originally released in 1966, in Mono and Stereo versions,  and the same year we got both versions released here in Chile and like in most of the cases of the period, we got it with an UNIQUE COVER, made of a single piece of thin cardboard, folded in the middle, so 3 sides are open like if it was a gatefold cover and kept all together inside a plastic bag. Front cover keeps the original artwork but back cover is different, with a brief review about Jerry Lee Lewis and this album and tracklist written in Spanish only, with NO album title in back cover.  In labels the tracklist is in Spanish only with NO album title, only credits for songwriters, just like back cover. It’s interesting to notice that the name of one of those songwriters, correctly written in back cover “D.L. LIPSCOMB” is misspelled in label “D.P. LIPSCOMB”!!! But the most important fact to keep in mind is that in Side 1 label is the PROMOTIONAL STICKER!!! And a curious fact in this issue is hidden in the matrix number, because it indicates the origin is… Chile?... NO!!! The origin in matrix numbers is Holland!!! So, I guess this press is licensed from Dutch Philips Records. Yes Sir, ANOTHER RARITY from this side of the world!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in great VG condition both the front and back cover, complete and clean, with only some wear in the mouth edge and corners, some age browning, but some rips in the spine, writings in each song and scuffs in top left corner. The record is in superb EX+ or NM- condition, glossy and clean, with light scuffs and hairlines, more evident in Side 1, which don’t affect play. Labels are in stunning NM- or NM condition both sides, very minimal spindle hole wear and a factory fault in Side 2. The WHITE PROMOTIONAL STICKER in Side 1 is in superb NM+ condition, only with minimal age yellowing. The sound is the best part, it’s in absolutely stunning NM- or NM condition both sides, loud, clear and clean, no background noise (surface noise is normal in records from Chile), only some very minimal and occasional crackles here and there, hard to hear if you are nt looking for them, which of course don’t distract of the great sound of this record. Overall a fabulous record, with still a great glossy look and an amazing sound quality after 48 years!!! A great album in still a great condition!!! And don’t forget the UNIQUE COVER, UNIQUE ERROR, unusual blue/silver Philips labels, MEGARARE PROMOTIONAL STICKER and matrix numbers from Holland!!! WOW!!! Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

SHIPPING (Packing and Postage)

We have an unique value worldwide: 

GBP15 for weight until 1kg (usually 1 or 2 records 12" depending of thickness of the vinyl)

GBP25 for weight 1-2kg (usually 3-5 records 12")

GBP7 for one 7” record

All records will be packed outside of the sleeve to avoid damages in the cover and all records will be sent with tracking number via Small Packet or Parcel Post services.

FEEDBACK

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive a positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
