ITEM: Rare, Original Sun LP "Jerry Lee Lewis", by Jerry Lee Lewis. His First LP, released in 1958 on Sun Records Deep Groove label, catalog number 1230.
COMMENTS/CONDITION: This LP came from a private collection - it is not a beat up item bought at a yard sale. The record was visually graded, and was test played. Grading is according to Goldmine Standards. If you are not familiar with that system, please go to the Goldmine web site and read the grading details BEFORE YOU BID.
Vinyl is in a VG+ to VG++ Condition with a nice glossy luster. There are no warps, deep scratches, cracks, excessive groove wear, or chips. On close inspection under a bright light source, a few light scuffs and a light scratch mark can be detected, which are mostly cosmetic, and do not affect the playback or enjoyment of the recordings. The scratch mark is on Side 1 at the end of track 4 and the beginning of track 5. On my older system, I heard 2 light tics in the dead-wax between the tracks. If there were any additional tics, I did not hear them over the music.Both sides played quietly with no harsh background noise, skips, or groove lock. NOTE: Sound quality will vary from system to system. The above comments are included strictly as reference, and are not a statement as to the experience you will have with your equipment.
Both labels are in excellent, clean condition with no peeling edges, writing, or stains. The center hole is perfectly round and shows no signs of repeated playing.
The inner sleeve is a generic, unprinted white paper issue.
Cover is in VG+ to VG++ condition, with no rips, tears, tape, stickers, labels, or writing. The laminated front cover photos and graphics are crisp and glossy. Colors remain bright with no fading, even after 54 years! Seams are good with no splits, and the spine is easily readable. This is NOT a cut-out - NO drill holes, notches, or clipped corners. There is very light rub/scuff wear present. There is minor edge wear/scuffing to the two corner tips of the opening edge, and there is a tiny 3/4 inch scrape mark on the top edge. There are light crease lines present in the front cover laminate material, which is fairly common in early issues. The cardboard cover is not creased or bent, the lines are in the paper overlay laminate only.
I have not tried to clean the vinyl, the labels, or the cover. Serious collectors usually have their own preferred methods they use to care for their records. I did wipe the vinyl with a damp cotton cloth before playing, to remove any loose dirt or dust.
