UK RCA (RD 7926) SECOND *MONO* PRESSING (but the very first on the RCA Orange Label) OF JEFFERSON AIRPLANE'S PSYCH MASTERPIECE "After Bathing At Baxter's" IN GREAT CONDITION DELIVERING SENSATIONAL AUDIO THROUGHOUT - FANTASTIC WEST COAST PSYCHEDELIA AT ITS FINEST AND POSSIBLY MY FAVOURITE PSYCH LP FROM THE PERIOD - GREAT STUFF

PRESSED ON QUALITY HEAVYWEIGHT VINYL (very thick and chunky) WITH THE SMALL ORANGE RCA LABELS (only used for a very short period of time during1969)
MATRIX NUMBERS: URPM - 5522 - 1K / URPM - 5535 - 1K (the same as the first pressing)
THE RECORD IS HOUSED IN THE ORIGINAL FRONT LAMINATED SLEEVE "Printed in England by Robert Stace" (again, identical to the first pressing - later sleeves were fully laminated)
COMPETE WITH THE ORIGINAL THIN, PLAIN WHITE (UNLINED) DIE-CUT INNER SLEEVE

There was ten months between Surrealistic Pillow and After Bathing at Baxter's, and what a difference ten months made.
Bookending the year that psychedelia emerged in full bloom as a freestanding musical form, After Bathing at Baxter's was among the purest of rock's psychedelic albums, offering few concessions to popular taste and none to the needs of AM radio, which made it nowhere remotely as successful as its predecessor, but it was also a lot more daring.
The album also showed a band in a state of ferment, as singer/guitarist Marty Balin largely surrendered much of his creative input in the band he'd founded, and let Paul Kantner and Grace Slick dominate the songwriting and singing on all but one cut ("Young Girl Sunday Blues").
The group had found the preceding album a little too perfect, and not fully representative of the musicians or what they were about, and they were determined to do the music their way on Baxter's
Essentially, After Bathing at Baxter's was the group's attempt to create music that captured what the psychedelic experience sounded and felt like to them from the inside; on a psychic level, it was an introverted exercise in music-making and a complete reversal of the extroverted experience in putting together Surrealistic Pillow.
Toward that end, they were working "without a net," for although Al Schmitt was the nominal producer, he gave the group the freedom to indulge in any experimentation they chose to attempt, effectively letting them produce themselves.

LABELS: Clean, bright and unmarked with light/moderate spindles. Seen a few plays but carefully handled - EXCELLENT
VINYL Visual: The vinyl surfaces retain their original deep glossy sheen and are practically unmarked - EXCELLENT
VINYL Audio: Plays beautifully throughout with a crystal clear, rich, sharp and detailed MONO cut - very fresh and immediate sound to this MONO pressing and on playback at a loud volume there are no scratches, no sticks/jumps, no loud clicks or pops and just a touch of surface noise on "Spare Chaynge" which is mostly a very, very quiet track - but nothing I found at all intrusive. Otherwise, the sound quality is simply sensational throughout and the whole LP plays to a very high standard with all frequencies bright and clear and there is no groove-wear and no distortion. Strictly graded a strong EXCELLENT for audio - sounds great
SLEEVE: The front laminated cover has no real top and bottom edge wear to speak of and all text on the spine is clear and bold. The front laminated surface still retains its original deep, glass-like glossy sheen with just some half-moon creases towards the opening edge and the unlaminated back is also very clean. Overall, a very fine example - EXCELLENT
