This is a very NICE copy of this hard to find, very desirable Jazz LP, HAROLD LAND "THE FOX", on HI-Fi Records. This LP is very scarce! It was later reissued on Contemporary Records, but this is the FIRST PRESSING DOUBLE SIDED DEEP GROOVE on the short lived HI-FI Records Label. This is brilliantly performed, hard swinging early 60s JAZZ at its best! Featuring HAROLD LAND, Sax, the somewhat obscure and under recorded DUPREE BOLTON, ( a devotee of the Clifford Brown school) Trumpet, ELMO HOPE, Piano, HERBIE LEWIS, Bass, and FRANK BUTLER, Drums. A rare and sought after LP in nice condition for the discerning collector.
This LP was released in 1960 according to the liner notes by Downbeat Magazine West Coast editor, JOHN TYNAN, and this is an ORIGINAL PRESSING. The vinyl is super nice, conservatively rated at VG+, with a few light marks, very clean, and a few light sleeve marks, thats it. Many would grade VG++. The labels are super clean, with no spindle marks. The LP itself is the medium - thick, heavy vinyl associated with these early 60s pressings. I have played this LP, and it plays beautifully, with almost no back round noise...but of course, there might be an occasional pop or click. This is a 60 year old record, and its not absolutely flawless. Its all about the music, and this LP plays great!
Ive been advised by a friend who is a very experienced seller to be very conservative on my ratings, as Im an avid collector, but a relatively new "seller". The classic cardboard cover is in VG/ VG- condition, with clear tape on the top seam, and spine (neatly done by a previous owner) the bottom seam has a slight partial paper loss at the corner (about 1/2 inch) and a slight "corner ding". There is some age related soiling on the back cover, and a very slight pressing creasing of the paper slick from the factory (about 1 1/2 inches), which doesn't effect the readability of the liner notes: see pics). The LP cover has moderate shelf wear for an album that is close to 60 years old. The classic cover with its distinctive artwork by Saul White, and pictures, are sharp and clear.
I am a Jazz Pianist and Recording Artist, and have been collecting Rare Jazz LPs for many years. This is one from my personal collection. I assure you, all the LPs I will be offering here have been meticulously taken care of, and only played rarely, on a Sota Sapphire Turntable, with a Grado Reference Cartridge. They have been kept inside a temperature controlled room in my home, in plastic dust jackets. In other words, you can bid in confidence, knowing these LPs come from someone who has loved them and babied them. I reluctantly am beginning to sell some of my LPs, and hope they go to someone who will love them as I have.
All LPs will be carefully packed in strong, proper LP boxes, well protected, and sent USPS PRIORITY MAIL or EXPRESS MAIL so proper tracking is available. Media Rate for domestic shipments is available, but really not recommended. For overseas buyers, ( Europe, Asia, Australia, South America, etc) we recommend PRIORITY MAIL, EXPRESS MAIL, or REGISTERED MAIL for proper tracking. We keep very close watch on all shipments through United States Post Office and Customs. Shipping costs are always based on your location.
