·         COMMENTS / ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: RARE private jazz LP by students at the famed Berklee School in Boston.  Original mono Berklee label press.  Extremely professional student ensembles performing works by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. Directed by Herb Pomeroy. Superb large and small-group performances, with updated arrangements of Ellington standards with a more modern (‘60s) flavor.

Features a remarkable array of future stars – the notables I recognize that went on to have stellar careers (there may be others here) are Sadao Watanabe (alto sax, flute), Michael “ Mike” Gibbs (known for his acid-jazz-funk recordings, here playing trombone), Mike Renzi (piano – famed jazz accompanist and Emmy winner for composing the music for “Sesame Street”!), Gene Perla (known now as a bassist – here he’s playing piano and arranging), Charles Owens (alto sax, clarinet), Hal McIntyre, Jr. (son of the famed swing bandleader, a well-respected bandleader in his own right), Jim Castaldi (trumpet) and Graham Collier (arranger – the first British graduate of Berklee, in 1963).
