This is the original 1955 1st press on Transition TRLP-1.
Legendary rare release on the equally rare Transition label features Trumpeter Pomeroy along with Ray Santici, James Zitano, and others in a lost classic that no serious jazz collector can be without.
Cover is split on top and bottom.
Visually vinyl is very glossy with some staining on the vinyl. (white lines are camera reflections from the light)
Play graded on an all tube audio system with a Kondo IO-J moving coil cartridge sound is excellent with some very minor background surface noise on the quieter passages ( not obtrusive). Staining has no effect on the sound.
Transition Records was a jazz record company and label based in Cambridge, Massachusetts established by Tom Wilson in 1955.[1][2] A short lived label ( apx. 2 years) , Transition announced several albums which were left unreleased, including recordings by Jo Mapes, Yusef Lateef, Pepper Adams and Curtis Fuller, Charles Mingus, Jay Migliori, and Sheila Jordan.[3]
Jazz In A Stable, was Transition's first release released November 1, 1955. Led by trumpetist Herb Pomeroy, the album was recorded with the house band at Boston’s music club The Stable and was praised by jazz magazine Down Beat upon its release, who wrote “the musicianship is of a very high level. Pomeroy indicates again that he is one of the best young trumpeters in the country…Collectively, the unit swings and has good ensemble integration…The set is thoroughly recommended.”
