Description
I'm assuming anyone reading this has heard this recording at some point. If not, I'll simply say "Holy {*#%!!" can he play. From the beginning, he makes his instrument sound like the cries of millions who wish they could play as well. I've had this for a long time and got it from my grandparents when they downsized. I always liked it when I was a little kid. This copy wasn't the copy they played all the time. I'm still keeping that one. This was a duplicate that I think was always intended for me for whatever reason. Anyway, I've always taken excellent care of it and play it once a year or so, mainly to show off my stereo. My other copy is played more often, doesn't sound as good and looks like hades. This copy has some very light surface scuffs and the jacket has a spot or two and the top seam has separated almost to the halfway point. I took it out of the original sleeve, which is included should you want it, and I put it in a Mo-Fi plastic static free sleeve which seems to have helped a great deal.
Here's how I'd grade the jacket: Good. There color and such is still sharp. The text is clear and the white on the back is 97% clean. If not for the seam separation, it'd be almost excellent.
Here's how I'd grade the vinyl: if Mint is New and not yet played, Excellent is below mint having been played and being very clean, but maybe showing a scuff and spindle hole wear, then there's plain old Good. Good is playable and can sound okay with a stiff cleaning. Within the Good grade, where most records fall, at the top there's Very Good+ which is a notch below Excellent showing more surface and spindle hole wear, but with little difference in sound and being two notches above Good. Very good is one notch above good as it shows a more wear than VG+, has pops and clicks and is generally more noisy. I'd say Very Good is two notches below Excellent.
I'd rate this as Very Good+. Yes it has some surface scuffs, but the sound is excellent and there's little to no noise from the beginning until the end. It's almost silent as it begins. If judging by one's ears alone, I'm not afraid to say it's close to Mint. I use a Grace F9e, Denon 103, and a Shure V15iii cartridge assortment if that helps any. Anyway, that's the scoop. This is a great LP with a jacket that looks just a tad better than its age would suggest.
