An extremely hard to find in this condition, Sheffield Direct To Disc recording by James Newton Howard. Classic audiophile 1983 album features Steve, Joe and Jeff Porcaro along with Toto band mate, David Paich. A Bill Schnee recording.
This is an original Sheffield Lab Direct-to-Disk, Limited Edition Audiophile Pressing. Sheffield are the pioneers of Direct-To-Disc recording and had much to do with the advent of the "audiophile" label put on recordings that exemplify top standards in recording, mastering and pressing. Long out of print, these original Sheffields are considered to be some of the finest recordings ever produced.
Record sleeve has some shelf wear especially on the bottom and less on the spine. There is a noticeable horizontal crease about 3/4 up the spine. Corners are dull and there is a round sticker that says "first" on the bottom right of the jacket. Two-sided, heavy paper inner sleeve detailing song and recording information is in perfect condition. Vinyl has been well cared for, shiny and plays beautifully.

Review: James Newton Howard is an eight-time Academy Award nominated American film score composer, orchestrator, and music producer, better known for his frequent collaborations with director M. Night Shyamalan. He is one of the most sought after composers in Hollywood because of his rich and critically acclaimed resume. He is well known for his highly emotional and powerfully subtle music, supplying his talent to an array of films such as The Fugitive, The Sixth Sense, Signs, The Village, the two Christopher Nolan Batman films; Batman Begins and The Dark Knight with Hans Zimmer, Peter Jackson's King Kong, I Am Legend, and most recently, Green Lantern.
James Newton Howard and Friends was recorded live, direct-to-disc. Features David Paich (keyboards), Steve Porcaro (keyboards), Jeff Porcaro (drums) and Joe Porcaro (percussion).
Those of you who know Toto will know the musicians on this album. But the music will surprise you. A deft mix of jazzy rock instrumentals, performed entirely on electronic keyboards while the legendary Jeffery Porcaro plays drums.
The original vinyl album is a direct to disk recording, which means that the music was played, from beginning to end, without interruption (except one break between vinyl sides one and two). No retakes for these guys. The recording is sublime.
If you are adventurous and like Toto and jazz fusion, you will like this album. Especially if you a looking for something a little different.
