Description

Absolutely stunning copy of the original 1969 pressing of the legendary Popcorn LP by James Brown, or the James Brown Band, rather, on King KSD-1055. “James brown directs and dances with the James Brown Band” on a relentless set of super-grooved-out instrumental funk. A real DJ favorite, and an amazing original copy, which sounds unbelievable, especially compared to the weak-sounding repressings. As you all know, these sorts of records were party records and almost all opened copies are terribly worn out from being used at parties… but this copy was very well cared for and probably almost never played. The disc is very nearly mint and plays very close to flawlessly and truly beautifully. The only flaw is that there appears to have been a little drop of candle wax on side one, but I carefully cleaned it off and had it ultrasonically cleaned. There is still a little residue there but it plays with barely any issue. There are a few very faint dull ticks that are noticeable if you are listening for them, but it is only for a few moments and is really barely noticeable. Other than that the t is gorgeously minty, with only a few tiny sleeve scuffs. Really an unbelievably clean original disc! Sounds too good to be true. The cover is also amazingly clean, with only the faintest ringwear just beginning to appear and very slight edgewear, and an extremely light rubbing at the lower right corner. No seam splits or creases or any damage. Just an incredible original copy, pretty much impossible to beat.
