JAMAN (QUARTET) - ''Sweet Heritage''
Mark Records MC 5970, 1970s.
Vintage LP record album, not a recent pressing.
Local WNY-area release. The front cover has no artist name, the back cover calls it simply the Jaman Group, the label says Jaman Quartet - although there only seems to be FOUR guys in the group.
The main man is Jaman himself (J.E. Manuel) on keyboards, who in the past had worked with R&B bands and many people in the jazz world (Turrentines, Bostic, Stitt, Joe Farrell, Lenny Welch, Ethel Ennis, Rufus Jones). The rest of the group is Jim Kerzdorfer - bass (aka Kurzdorfer; I believe he is the bassist on the Birthright LPs also); Nasara Abadey - drums, percussion; Dhui Mandingo - congas, percussion. Assisted by Dennis Williamson - cello, James Clark - guitar, and JoAnn Crosby and Beverly Johnson Ross on vocals.
I expect the sound to be a mix of straight jazz, soul/jazz, and some funky stuff.... maybe some Free and Afro-centric stuff too.... the extensive liner notes mention that the title cut includes influences from Gosple and blues. Titles include Free Will and Serene Beauty and there's also versions of One Of A Kind (Love Affair) (the Spinners) and You Are The Sunshine Of My Life. I believe there's some beats or breaks on here somewhere, as that's what the previous big bidders were interested in. The last track, 'In The Fall Of The Year', is a looong track with lots of percussion and a Latin vibe.
Vinyl is VG++. It has 100% of its original gloss and looks like it was played a few times at most, but there is one small mark in the vinyl. I can't tell for sure but it may be a manufacturing flaw. It makes some low-pitched, low-level (that is, QUIET) ticks on one part only, the solo cello intro to 'Serene Beauty'. It ends when the intro ends, then the actual song begins and it's perfect. Vinyl is otherwise Mint. Cover is still in the original shrinkwrap (which is open but otherwise completely intact). Cover is perfect but for one minor flaw, a couple small tears on the opening edge (see my photo; I've added an AA battery to give perspective of how small they are).

Forms or payment that are accepted are: Money Orders, IMO's, checks (personal checks only if you have at least 10 positives and no negatives), or cash in a Registered letter. The one exception to those Auction Terms is: for THIS auction only, I can't accept PayPal. Sorry, but I can't afford the large fee they will charge me to accept this payment. I do have a personal Paypal account through which I can accept Non-Credit Card payments, but eBay says I can't use that as a payment option unless I accept Credit Cards too. Therefore, for this Auction only, no PayPal. Sorry! I'd like to offer it, but I can't under eBay's current setup.
