Jade Warrior : Last Autumn's Dream 1Y4 / 2Y4 1st Vertigo Press 1972

This rare and very collectable first pressing plays to a 'high end' that you just hardly ever find.  A true time-warp classic with no interference on either side.  The clarity is 'as new' and by that I mean no 'background' of any kind not even a hint of static.  I cannot emphasise enough just how impressive the sonic quality is here and it is without question a FINAL UPGRADE first pressing i.e. no need to ever purchase another as you could not improve upon this!  I play grade my records in full so as to provide a 'complete' description and Mint is no exaggeration.

The vinyl is visually stunning and as per the other Jade Warrior I am selling has been so carefully looked after down the years.  With only minimal spindle wear it has not been played very much and that is of borne out by the clarity, warmth and depth of the audio.  The cover is also in amazing Near Mint condition with no real wear - a stunning example.  It also includes the original Vertigo inner which is in excellent condition.

Visual grading

The vinyl is in amazing condition and still has an immaculate jet-black glossy sheen with no marks or scratches at all.  You would not be disappointed if you had just walked out of the record shop with this 'brand new'!  I have inspected it very closely and all I can find are 3/4 minor 'specks' and one small circular blemish on Side A.  Even blemish is perhaps too strong a word for it as it is so faint and not easy to find!  There are only a couple of fine sleeve removal hairlines in total and this is without doubt the most stunning example of this record that I have ever seen.  There is no groove wear and it has been so well preserved over the decades, it is very close to 50 years old of course.  The run out grooves are pristine and the Vertigo labels are also near perfect with only very minimal spindle wear.  Superb!

Play grading

The intro on 'A Winter's Tale' plays so clearly considering it is so quiet.  The first part is indeed perfect with no 'background' not even during the 'silent' section.  The opening vocal has only a couple of light static ticks and the first chorus is faultless.  The next verse plays with sublime clarity with only a small number of barely audible ticks and from that point on it plays with stunning clarity and depth.  The final 'louder' section has no intrusion and overall Mint- is well deserved.

The slow build up intro on 'Snake' is 'as new' as is the first guitar section.  It continues to play with supreme power and the entire track has no interference - this is audio of the highest calibre and no need for a minus here, this is Mint in the truest sense of the word and even the fade out has no 'background'.

As per the other Jade Warrior I am selling I just cannot believe the clarity on offer here.  All you can hear on the flute intro on 'Dark River' is the music.  There is no underlying static and obviously there are no ticks, clicks or pops.  The acoustic section is just as impressive and so far it has that CD like aesthetic quality but without the warmth and depth that vinyl brings.  It continues to play with breathtaking quality through every instrumental section with just one minor static tick in the middle.  The percussive end section is out of this world!  'As new' about covers it!  I am going to have to grade this as Mint again but I make no apology for that!

'Joanne' plays with great quality from the get go and again the clarity and depth of the audio from the first note to the last cannot be faulted.  There are a number of 'high octane' sections especially at the end but the playback does not suffer from any distortion at all.  It is like you are playing the record for the first time and to think it near 50 years of age!  The sonic quality is unbelievably good.  Mint

The percussive/electric intro on 'Obedience' more than keeps up the standard and it continues in the same precise way...with no intrusion.  On such an 'electric' track and being the final track on the side you might expect some distortion but there is none.  A perfect Mint finish to the side and in no way are the tracks over-graded.  This is just audio of the highest quality, it's not in my interest to over-grade!

'Morning Hymn' on S2 is as near to perfect as is possible.  The clarity is stunning throughout and I only detected two very light static ticks and a handful of barely audible dust ticks.  It plays beautifully with no underlying static and Mint- is an a fair assessment of the audio.

The intro on 'May Queen' is impeccably clean with only a couple of dust ticks and the first verse has no interference at all.  From then on you would not believe the quality of the audio!  The quiet section is 'as new' and it proceeds in the same way with a clarity that is STUNNING!  The second verse plays with sublime quality and the remainder is of the same 'high end' standard.  Each note is again so clean and precise and that original sonic quality is still there.  Such a strong deep bass line also.  A Mint version for sure.

'The Demon Trucker' plays with unrivalled quality from start to finish with no interference.  The depth of the audio is very much in evidence here and the fade out again has no 'background'.  Mint

The quiet intro on 'Lady Of The Lake' is 'as new' and it continues to play with a clarity and warmth that cannot be beaten.  If you win this LP just listen to the quiet acoustic section prior to the final verse.  I've never heard clarity like it!  No need to elaborate here, this is Mint in every way.

'Borne On The Solar Wind' plays to the same standard with...no intrusion.  Again the warmth and depth of the audio is outstanding and ends this fine album with perfect Mint audio.

In summary this first pressing is absolutely STUNNING!  This is a FINAL UPGRADE time-warp classic as you could not wish to find a better version.  Put simply the audio on both sides is Mint and you cannot say that for many albums nearing 50 years of age!  The sonic quality is incredible and you would not be disappointed if you had just bought this record brand new!  Clarity such as this is so rarely found today and even the dead wax between each track is completely silent.  Together with a superb cover the winning bidder will be as impressed as I am I can guarantee that!

The Gatefold & Swirl Inner

The cover is in beautiful condition and has been incredibly well preserved over the years.  It has retained its original shape and strength so well with no bends or creases and has hardly ever been handled.  There really are no negatives!  The edges have barely any 'rubbing' and the wide spine is 'as new'.  The corners are so clean with hardly any wear and the opening edge is also in superb condition.  The front cover is stunning!  It has no marking or scratching and has just one very small crease by the top left corner.  This can also be seen on the reverse side but it is so minor and basically the back cover is as impressive as the front.  The inside of the gatefold is immaculate apart from that small corner crease which you can see at the top of the inner spine.  A truly stunning example - a genuine time-warp classic!

The original swirl inner has no side split or tears and hardly any creasing.  It does have some age related fading mainly on the top and bottom edges but is an excellent example overall.
