JADE – Faces Of Jade. Shake It Records SHAKE 1273. SEALED NEW VINYL RECORD ALBUM. Originally issued in 1971. This edition issued in 2014. Pressed on translucent green vinyl in an press run of just 500 copies. Band authorized. MEMBERS:  Jim Aumann (keyboard, vocal), Nick Root (bass, vocal), Tim Nixon (percussion), and Randy Morse (guitar, vocal). TRACKS:  Prelude Willows End, Blue Ways, Well, We (Got To Make It Thru), My Mary (More Than Ever), My Honey, Rest Of My Life, All Alone, Flying Away, and Wait Till I Come Home. DESCRIPTION:  Reissue of highly sought-after US (Ohio) melodic, pop psych LP. Originally released in 1971 and now reissued in 2014 with the full consent of the band. Highly touted on/in Acid Archives, Tyme Machine & more. Jade's Faces Of Jade album is a tough-to-find Cincinnati-area nugget. It is one of the most highly sought-after "Beatles-Impact" records among psych, power-pop, and Beatles collectors. Great mix of Rubber Soul and the Zombies & The Bee Gees Baroque Pop. After a bit of sleuthing the members were tracked down and with their cooperation Shake It Records is proud to give a proper and awesome-sounding vinyl reissue of their sole pop-psych classic. This first pressing of 500 is on green translucent vinyl and includes an MP3 coupon for a digital download copy of the album. As per the labels website this appears to already be out of print.

'This came to me with an 'underrated' tag attached, and I'm inclined to agree. It's late '60s Brit-psych/pop of the McCartney/Roy Wood variety, transplanted to 1970s Cincinnati, serving up plenty of innovation, fun and a fair amount of label money on hand. Opens with a dreamy psych mini-epic that recalls the second Fallen Angels album, the rest holds a middle ground between London '68 and the clever pop that Ohio would become famous for, leaving the listener to decide if this is a late '60s lyte-psych LP or in fact an Anglo-retro '70s trip. Lots of piano, Penny Lane fanfares, high-pitched teen harmonies, and unexpected studio tricks. One of the best in the style.' --Acid Archives"

Cincinnatti's Jade were another one of those elusive late 60s early 70s psychedelic acts who left behind only one album, issued on the General American label, before vanishing into the mist. Virtually nothing is known about the band, but collectors have been swarming record fairs and pillaging eBay for years in the hopes of snagging this relic. So does the album live up to its hype? Mostly, yes... Considering the modest budget of such a DIY undertaking in 1970, the mix is well done and the material is very well constructed. This was recorded at local Jewell Recording Studio. Blending the Beatles, Blossom Toes and a number of other pop/psych acts of the era, Jade create a formidable aural tapestry. With slight folk leanings, each track breezes along quite nicely throughout the duration of the album. The engineering trickery in places here are subtle reminders that Jade were foremost Beatles influenced. Perhaps the strangest track is My Mary which is absolutely mindblowing. This ingenius piece features music that runs in reverse (backward) while the vocalist uses fragmented phrasings to fit the words into the warped beat. The outcome is like a bent merry-go-round, wobbling in circular motion while the seasick vocals spill out over the arrangement. It's truly a sound to behold. The rest of the album is mostly just as satisfying and any lovers of quirky psych will find alot to enjoy in Faces of Jade.  Similarities to Lazy Smoke, Ellie Pop, and Sleey Hollow.

All LPs are removed from their jackets and placed outside of the jacket for shipping. If an album comes sealed (and will be noted as such in the above description), it will be shipped whole unless you request that I open it up to place the disc outside of the jacket for shipping. Both jacket and disc are placed inside of an outer plastic sleeve before packing for shipping. I use professional corrugated record mailers.
