Chris Lyth has recorded under many aliases over the years (Capricorn One, Heads of State, Sparkhouse, Curtis Hope etc), but it's for his work as Jacksonville that he's undoubtedly best known. Here the Edinburgh-based artist makes his bow on home city imprint Stepback Records, once more showing his firm grasp of classy deep house dynamics. He starts in breezy-but-weighty mode on 'Cupid & Psyche', where eyes-closed diva vocal samples and rushing synth stabs ride rolling beats and a stabbing acid bassline, before blurring the boundaries between deep house, electro and polyrhythmic techno on 'Oracle Memory'. 'Kinky Don' is a tease-and-release late-night delight blessed with cut-up vocal snippets, echoing synth motifs and crunchy garage-house drums, while 'Golden Reptiles' is a fizzing deep electro treat with added ambient beauty.
