Guitarist Michael Gregory Jackson was 22 when he recorded this hugely accomplished debut in 1976, and it has remained a key part of the New York loft jazz sound that moves between free improvisation, spiritual intensity and genre-crossing electric detail. Jackson played acoustic and electric guitars, bamboo flute, marimba and percussion and was joined by Oliver Lake, Wadada Leo Smith and David Murray across seven original compositions. Arrhythmic strumming, enchanted r&b vocals, avant percussive clatter, processed electric guitar and fiery horn lines over timpani and flute coexist with complete naturalness. This is a fully authorised LP reissue, remastered and restored with new liner notes by LaMont Hamilton.
