LP is in Near Mint condition.
The thick lustrous vinyl is nearly flawless, withoutmarks, scuffs,or scratches of any kind. The fidelity is superb,with no distortion, pops, clicks,or background noise of any kind.


Jacket is inNM/EX+ condition. Original heavy and glossy jacket is in nice condition. There are virtually no scuffs, or blemishes of any kind.There is very minor corner and shelf wear, as in image.This includes a small (REVIEW STAMP) andone small timing notationon back.This lp is stored in the original inner sleeve. Jackie McLean always stood apart from the crowd. A boyhood friend of Bud Powell and Sonny Rollins, McLean was one of the few altoist of the 1950s not to sound like a close relative of Charlie Parker. His biting tone was always intense and he was featured on records as early as a 1951 Miles Davis date. While McLean's playing helped to define hard bop, he was always looking ahead and he sounded unlike anyone else. When Ornette Coleman burst upon the New York scene in 1959 with his brand of free jazz, McLean listened closely and came up with his own conception of avant-garde jazz. He was one of the few musicians associated with hard bop to be able to play in much freer settings, and of his explorations in this area, One Step Beyond is considered his classic. Teamed in a pianoless quintet in 1963 with trombonist Grachan Moncur III, vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson and the teenaged drummer Tony Williams, McLean performs four adventurous and lengthy originals that allow the musicians opportunities to stretch out and be very creative. Quite typically, the results do not sound like Ornette Coleman or John Coltrane but instead are quite original. And the distinctive altoist could be no one but the great Jackie McLean.
