Another incredibly rare and exceptionally hard, super tight session here on Volume 1 of the seriously hard to find Reportages Musicali LPs. As many of you will already appreciate, the line up for this session is too much! It's virtually a who's who of the finest Italian producers/artists who's forte is Jazz OST. P. De Luca was of course responsible for several of the most essential Italian Jazz soundtracks including the uber rare L'Uomo Dagli Occhi Di Ghiaccio, La Ragazza Con La Pistola on RCA Italiana and the super rare Il Dio Chiamato Dorian (which is only available on the obscure CAM Library PRE 9, shared with a disparate soundtrack and credited to a Giueseppe De Luca). Add to this the gifted talents of one Sandro Brugnolini who gave us some spectacular Library recordings such as his infamous double set from 1970 Overground and Underground, before Utopia on Bruno Nicolai's own label Gemelli two years later. Cortese of course is a robust Library maestro releasing titles on CAM, NIKE and Metropole to name but a few.
What is odd is that both Reportages Musicali Library's remain largely under the radar still they contain ridiculously hard modal Jazz alongside deep end experimental soundscapes ala James Asher or Pete Willtshire or Tony Kelly all of whom put out extraordinary records for Studio G & De Wolfe. This session however is never stronger that the insanely sleazy 5/5 beast Cielo Scuro which manages to hold down the nastiest low slung funk rhythm punctuated only by moody modal flute passages, wild Afro percussion and eerie electronics. Here you get beautifully lush strings that collide with granite hard drum patterns before losing themselves in a fog of hand made effects boxes. Brugnolini and De Luca push the hard Jazz stylings into deeply weird spaces filled with dark electronics and strung out sleazy funk but Alessandroni styled incidental sonorities are never far from the mind on this exceptional record.
