Up for auction here tonight is one of three Witness Incorporated 45 RPM singles on the Apex label. This is a all original late 60s pressing and it's ORIGINAL authentic picture sleeve. Nothing is new or fake! I Guarantee this!





The Witness Inc - Jezebel / Not You Girl (APEX, 77063, circa 1968)

SPECTACULARLY rare picture sleeve and 7" single.

MUSICALLY you have to HEAR this sucker to believe it! Whoa! "Jezebel" starts of like Seabiscuit busting out of the gates, then eases back... shows a little restraint for a moment and then STRUTS with the same gusto and swagger as a young Jagger, Bowie or even a lean mean Marlon Brando for that matter. SOLID GOLD EAR CANDY! Why wasn't this a hit across the globe???? "Not You Girl" is the musical equivalent of a illegitimate love child if The Animals "House Of The Rising Sun" and The Zombies "Time Of The Season" had ever spent some time together in the back seat of a '63 Lincoln! Damn! The keyboards SCREAM, this thing is AWESOME.

Condition of 45: VG - VG+ - Excellent patina, good clean labels (one record box reference sticker on VJezebel side, visually both sides look quite good and feature good clean noticeably loud playback. I can email audio samples if so requested. Clearly this single has seen little handling and exposure. Could I put a higher grade? Probably, but better to be super conservative.

. Condition of picture sleeve: VG - Light wrinkling, one tiny stain and tear on top of the front of the sleeve, small stain to blank back cover of the picture sleeve. One small #43 written in ink visible on top left corner referring to sticker number affixed to the label. A good solid sleeve. The placement of the #43 is ideal for removal without the loss of any other artwork if the new owner so chooses to do a slight restoration, most large museums have a paper restorer on staff that can easily do this work inexpensively.



For a bit of this bands back story you have to go to their origin in Regina, Saskatchewan. My knowledge of the band begins when they began to play here in Winnipeg (Winnerpeg?) Manitoba. We have an abundance of small live music venue's called COMMUNITY CENTRE'S. In the 50s and 60s these venues which hold a couple hundred people would be packed FAR past capacity to crowds dancing to local music talent. We have DOZENS of these venues scattered across town so we became a natural home for bands wanting to show off their ability. This combination of venue's and a hungry appreciative audience lead to Winnipeg becoming a hotbed of musical ability surpassing all other Canadian cities in this era. Back to Witness Inc., they would be booked as the last band of the night, not because they were the best, but because no one had heard of them and the prime spots to play were early on in the evening. By the time they got on stage half the crowd would have gone home. Those who stayed to hear this band from Regina would be RUNNING to the payphones to call all their friends so that they could RACE back to the venue because Witness were SPECTACULAR live, they tore up the stage at every opportunity. The stories about their shows have become the stuff of local legend. And of course the legend didn't end there, after the group disbanded, their lead singer, Kenny Shields (who still lives here and is one hell of a fabulous guy!) built a new band that you should know without me having to tell you about, that would be Streetheart, one of the finer bands in the land as well. A combination of great recorded output and intense live shows made every project Kenny Shields was a part of LEGENDARY. This is why you need to own these early Canadian pressings, they have a whole lot of woogie embedded in their boogie... irrefutable proof that Canadians know how to play as well as anybody, sometimes better! THIS IS PROOF!

Yes, that's a ORIGINAL 1970 Festival Express decal on the Neil Young jacket this Witness Inc. 45 is displayed on, I wanted to place it on a safe surface for photographing, and I wanted to give you something exciting to look at as well, proof that I do have some knowledge and background in good early music and memorabilia. Of course this Neil sleeve/Festival Express decal is NOT part of this auction, but that goes without saying doesn't it?

PS, I'm pretty sure the dog's name is Winnipeg!
