Description
Offered is a vintage Waldorf Records "The Ink Spots Sing" Extra Play Album (W-5) featuring three 10-inch 78 RPM shellac records housed in the original illustrated sleeve and outer album cover.
This album contains performances of many of The Ink Spots' best-known songs, including "I Don't Want to Set the World on Fire," one of the group's signature hits, along with Maybe, Java Jive, Paper Doll, Whispering Grass, Talk of the Town, Somebody's Rockin' My Dreamboat, We Three, and more.
The "Extra Play" format was introduced before the LP became standard, allowing listeners to enjoy a larger collection of songs by packaging multiple 78 RPM records together. These sets represent an important transition in music history and are increasingly sought after by collectors.
Complete examples of this Waldorf 3-record album are not commonly found, especially with the original album cover and illustrated sleeve/envelope, making this a wonderful addition for collectors of The Ink Spots, vintage 78 RPM records, and classic American popular music.
Condition: Pre-owned vintage condition. Includes the original outer album cover, original illustrated record sleeve/envelope, and all three 78 RPM shellac records. The outer album cover shows edge wear, creasing, tears, corner wear, and age-related discoloration consistent with its age. The illustrated inner sleeves have light wrinkles and handling wear.
The records themselves look very good for their age, retaining a nice gloss with only a few light scuffs and surface scratches from normal handling—nothing major that stands out visually. There is also some light paper sleeve residue/sleeve wear on portions of the shellac that may improve with a careful cleaning by the next owner. One record has a few small edge nicks/chips visible in the photos, but no major cracks were observed.
One of the three records was play-tested and played successfully. An example playback video is included in the listing so buyers can hear the audio quality.
I have shipped 78's and it will be sufficiently protected in a 12x12x4 box, sandwiched in between cardboard and bubble wrapped.
