Iggy and The Stooges - Raw Power [2 LP]

(mixed by David Bowie, booklet, gatefold)

Columbia Legacy    88691959351    886919593518    LP    Garage Rock, Hard Rock, Punk

If there's ever been an album that lives up to its title, this is it, Iggy and the Stooges' apocalyptic, high-octane 1973 release, Raw Power with its unforgettable Mick Rock photography on the front and back! The Iggy Pop produced/David Bowie mixed album literally provided the blueprint for the mid-'70s punk-rock explosion with such proto-punk frontal assaults as ''Search and Destroy,'' ''Shake Appeal,'' ''Your Pretty Face Is Going to Hell'' and the title track.

Although this incarnation of the Stooges (James Williamson/guitar, Ron Asheton/bass, Scott Asheton/drums) imploded not long after its release, Raw Power became the album that launched a million punk rock bands all around the world, leaving its mark on scenes from London to L.A. to Sydney. As iconic and influential a record as they come, this is primal rock 'n' roll at its absolute best!

''Raw Power was the confluence of the Stooges' ages, hormones, creativity, ability, experience, tastes, lack of supervision, contempt for authority and ambition to achieve our rock dreams however unrealistic they might be. The songs from Raw Power were written from deep within our souls and were played with a meaningfulness and authenticity which is rarely captured on record.'' - James Williamson

Record Grading

Mint (M): New condition.

Near Mint (NM): Nearly perfect, a record with no obvious signs of wear, a perfect sleeve with no more than the most minor defects and signs of slight handling.

Very Good Plus (VG+): A very good plus record will show signs that it was played, but was taken good care of by the previous owner. Record surface may show slight signs of wear or minor scuffs that do not affect play. Picture sleeves may have slight wear, lightly turned up corners.

Very Good (VG): A very good record will show groove wear and may have a few vinyl imperfections which will affect the sound. Picture sleeves will show slightly more wear with perhaps a frayed top edge, ring wear or seam breakdown.

Good (G) / Good Plus (G+): A good record will show significant wear and /or scratches, but will play through without skipping. It will have considerable surface noise. Picture sleeves may have seam splits @ bottom & spines, tape, writing, ring wear, stickers and other defects that will start to overwhelm the item. A good or good plus item is usually acquired to fill a hole in a collection until a better copy comes along.
