Originally released in 1986, Somewhere In Time was the sixth full-length from homegrown metal giants Iron Maiden, while marking the first time they would release an album with more than a single year gap between releases. Following on from the year-long World Slavery Tour in support of 1984's Powerslave, the band found themselves utterly burnt out to the point where they opted to pump the brakes on rushing another full-length. While utilising the time to begin experimenting with new equipment such as guitar synthesisers which feature prevalently across the record, bassist and lyricist Steve Harris would subconsciously begin penning lyrics that explore the myriad avenues of time, whether it be the devil offering man the ability to time travel in exchange for his soul on album opener 'Caught Somewhere In Time', all the way to the chronicling of the life of Alexander The Great on the epic closer 'Alexander the Great (356-323 BC)'. Boasting the live staples 'Heaven Can Wait' as well as 'Wasted Years'; the Adrian Smith-penned ode to homesickness inspired by the aforementioned hectic touring schedule, this often underrated gem arrives on limited yellow vinyl complete with a Future Past Tour lenticular print.
