Iron Maiden : Live After Death A-2 / B-2 / A-1 / B-2 1st Press

This first pressing plays to a wonderful standard with no interference at all and only a very minimal amount of non-intrusive static for a few seconds - it is hardly worth a mention!  The clarity and power of the music across all four sides is stunning and this is clearly an album that has not been overplayed.  The vinyls are very clean and there is barely any spindle wear.

The gatefold is in excellent condition with only very minimal wear and only one of the picture inners has a small split.  It also includes the original 8 page 12" by 12" poster book.

Visual grading

The vinyls are in lovely condition and both retain a very impressive glossy sheen.  There are no marks or scratches and only a small number of faint sleeve removal hairlines.  S1 has a few tiny 'specks' but have no affect on the superb audio.  The run out grooves and labels are super clean and there is only very minimal spindle wear.

Play grading

S1 plays with tremendous power and clarity starting with 'Churchill's Speech' that has no 'background' at all.  All tracks play to the same 'high end' standard with no interference at all and as always I have listened to every track in full.  There are no ticks, clicks or pops and no underlying static either.  Mint- is an honest reflection of the audio.

S2 begins with the epic 'Rime Of The Ancient Mariner' which again plays with stunning power and definition from start to finish.  The quiet instrumental section is so impressive with no clicks or pops, just some insignificant dust ticks.  I would grade this section as Near Mint and Mint- for the remainder.  The classics 'Powerslave' and 'The Number Of The Beast' are 'as new' with no interference and no distortion either.

'Hallowed Be Thy Name' on S3 has only very minimal static on the intro and from then on cannot be faulted.  The precision of the audio is STUNNING!  The other tracks play to a sublime standard with no sign of any interference, not even during 'Dickinson's' long dialogue on 'Running Free'.  So the intro to the side is Near Mint- but the remainder is Mint- for sure.

S4 begins with a perfect version of 'Wrathchild' and the rest of the side is equally as good.  So many classics here - '22 Acacia Avenue', 'Phantom Of The Opera' etc and yet they all play with a power and depth that could not be any stronger.  'Phantom...' especially is absolutely breathtaking!  This side is Mint- from the first groove to the last although the minus isn't really required!  What an album!

In summary this double LP plays to a standard that you rarely find today.  Understandably they have generally been heavily played but that is certainly not the case with this one and the sonic quality on every side cannot be faulted.  There is no one single click or pop and hardly any static!  Definitely nothing intrusive, it is so quiet.  A STUNNING album in every way!

The Gatefold

The cover is in excellent condition with only very minor shelf wear.  The top edges and the bottom edge of the back cover are near perfect and the bottom edge of the front cover just has a couple of small 'rubs'.  The wide spine is also in superb shape with only a couple of white 'specks' and has no corner wear at all.  Only the top right hand corners have a little rubbing/creasing and the opening edges are pristine with no handling wear.  The front cover has no marking apart from a few 'specks' top right with the corner wear next to it and the back cover is even better!  The inside of the gatefold is immaculate with no sign of marking/scratching.  A fine example overall.

The Lyric/Picture Inners & 8 Page Book

The first inner is in perfect condition and the second just has one small side split.  They have no marking or creasing.  The 8 page LP sized book is in great condition with only very minor creasing.

The Labels

They are in superb order with no marking or writing.  The first record has barely any spindle wear and the second only a very minimal amount.

Play tested on my Pro-Ject Essential III Turntable / B&W 684 Speakers
