Description
Here's an original 1972 33rpm two track unrealeased acetate by fabulous Scottish rock group IRON CLAW. Track one is 'Rock band blues' but with an extended instrumental intro cut from the compilation release, over a minute extra of explosive drums, mad volume swell guitar, power chords and a bass solo precede the vocal. The second track is a studio mess around that last about a minute and is unreleased. It's a music industry parody vocal on piano! I have confirmation of the recordings and comments on the disc from the bass player of the group, Alex Wilson, who hosts an excellent Facebook site for the group with fabulous insight and photos. Both tracks are on the same side of this EMI acetate. The disc shows some marks and crackles and pops but doesn't jump. The sound file will be more useful for assessing quality and condition. VG at best, but a one-off artifact. I've had the disc about 20 years, there's still plenty of music to enjoy on there! I've taken some pictures under harsh lighting to show the condition of the record, which has some stains and surface marks. This is a unique item. Listen to the track captured from the record. The band's story is great, do check out their Facebook site. Here's a bit of chat from Alex Wilson the bass player: "Wow, I had no idea this acetate existed. How did you come by this? The first track is indeed "Rock Band Blues" and the second is a piss take myself, Jimmy Ronnie and Billy Lyall (piano) did one afternoon in the Edinburgh studio! Jimmy plays Carole King and the mickey take was all about how the California "music mafia" all played on each others records all the time! That is the whole of the second recording by the way....I have the crackle free master tape recording of the piss take.... It was done to while away some time while the rest of the band were not present in the studio, for our own amusement. We recorded a lot of songs at Craighall Studios Edinburgh around 1972... if you check out the Iron Claw page on Facebook and go back a couple of years, there's pictures from Craighall there.... our first band was Iron Claw, nobody previous to that... we've got two CD's out, the older songs on Rockadrome, Texas and the newer songs on Ripple, California..... that is the original intro to Rock Band Blues, a bass solo by yours truly ..... You can sell the acetate if you wish, no problem from me..... I heard that Craighall sold off contents of cupboards, storerooms etc when they closed down? so that's probably where this appeared from... I had taken a 7" reel of tape to Craighall with some early recordings on it and accidentally left it up there." Happy bidding, collection may be possible from the Edinburgh area. And do be sure to look at my other items, French language Fuzz Psych from Marc Hamilton, Zappa on Verve, Beatles magazines and Eric Burdon and the Animals on an MGM LP.
