• thick heavy rigid 154g vinyl weight
• BELL SOUND stamped on LW plating
• the dead wax shows etched "LW" & machine stamped"ABCS641A / ABCS 641B" & "BELL SOUND"
• original mix stereo pressing DOES have the repeated verse in "High Flying Bird" only found on the 1st pressing
• the label & cover DO have track A2/B3 INTERCHANGED (later pressings corrected), and the misprint "People In/Of the Night" (also corrected later)
• cover is thick heavy cardboard & pasted on slick
• back slick is the TRUE FIRST VERSION that has the graphics printed so dark the group members' images are obscured/barely visible (corrected on later pressings)
• inner sleeve is color printed heavy paper stock

CONDITION:
VINYL =    VG+   Some sleeve scuff / hairlines or rub/light play marks or light unfeelable scratches visible under bright halogens. The labels are EX with light rub and light spindle marks.

PLAY GRADE =     STRONG VG+    Light static or hiss/crackle between tracks & subdominant in some backgrounds to varying degree, random artifact or pop/tick,  LOUD MUSIC EASILY OVERPOWERS WITH HUGE BOLD DEEP BOOMING FIDELITY.

COVER =    STRONG VG+   Very light storage rub, some impressions on front, light creasing near some edges, very slight vertical ripple to slick application on front left side, chipping lower front right corner, CLEAN BRIGHT BOLD & VIVID.  The edge seams have exceptionally light rub or dents at exposed areas but are SOLID NO SPLITS, SPINE LEGIBLE.  Corners are EX with minor rub/rounding or creasing except for chipping at lower front.

The album was recorded at Mayfair Studios in New York, during four weeks in February and early March, 1968 using a one-inch 8-track machine. A total of eleven tracks were recorded, of which nine were selected for inclusion on the album. The session engineer was Harry Yarmark and the remix engineer was Gary Kellgren. None of the band members were permitted in the mixing sessions. The album was released in June, 1968 with an initial pressing of 10,000 copies. These were all defective, having a repeated section during High Flying Bird as well as a back cover that was printed so dark as to be illegible. A second pressing of 2,500 copies corrected both faults.
