NUCLEUS - SOLAR PLEXUS - VERTIGO 'SPIRAL SWIRL' LABEL 1971 UK ORIGINAL 1st PRESSING LP

VERY RARE & MAGNIFICENT JAZZ / PROG ROCK FROM IAN CARR/HARRY BECKETT/KARL JENKINS/JEFF CLYNE/CHRIS SPEDDING++

NUCLEUS was trumpet player (and confirmed jazzmen and biographist) Ian Carr's project and the its discography is rather confusing with the different designations as some were called "Ian Carr's Nucleus", "Nucleus With Ian Carr" or simply "Ian Carr" (but with all NUCLEUS members playing). This is hardly meaning that he was the main writer, main influence or main soloist. Many outstanding musicians contributed material among which Karl Jenkins, Jeff Clyne, Chris Spedding, Alan Holdsworth, Brian Smith & Dave MacRae. Their music was of a frantic instrumental jazz-rock much alike some Miles Davis jazz-rock of the same era. Loads of wind instruments, but KB and a wide place for the guitarist (Spedding's guitar is superb and grandiose while self-restrained). Clearly the groundbreaking essence of NUCLEUS is best heard on the early albums including the one on offer here "Solar Plexus" from 1971.

A CLASSIC AND VERY RARE LP OF ITS GENRE.....DON'T MISS IT!

CONDITION

Vinyl: EX

(Visually both sides are in exellent condition retaining their original gloss and full shiny lustre. Under a strong light you can see a few very light wispy surface hairlines. Both sides of this great album play excellently with only occasional light background crackle in the quiet parts. No clicks, jumps or any other serious playing faults can be heard on both sides. This very fine record plays with strong, distortion-free sound, all frequencies are sharp and clear - sound quality is excellent with a wide dynamic range and very detailed sound. Any surface sounds are occasional and sporadic and no nasty pops or clicks were noted. Overall a lovely clean pressing of this great and rare original UK swirl Vertigo rarity)

Labels: EX

(The two original UK Vertigo large swirl labels are very clean with just some faint spindle marksvisible under angled light and one minor sticker stain on side two.  No other marks, writing or wear on both labels)

LP Sleeve: EX-

(Original unlaminated gatefold cover 'designed by B.E.Ltd' is in near EX condition condition with some mild ring wear, storage rubbing and a couple of tiny scuffs on the front and rear, light edge and corner tips wear. On the back of the gatefold cover near the bottom edge a previous owner has written 'D.Williams' (see picture no.8). The inside panels on the gatefold are very clean with no obvious faults. The spine is straight and the text is clear & readable. Overall a very nice example of this fragile unlaminated Vertigo gatefold sleeve)

Original Vertigo Black & White Spiral Inner Sleeve: EX-

(A few creases with some writing and black pen marks near top corner on one side)

IAN CARR with NUCLEUS

"Solar Plexus"

Original vinyl LP

Rare original UK 1st Press Vertigo swirl stereo LP complete with swirl logo polylined inner sleeve / White & Black text label with 'Big Swirl' / Non-laminated matt gatefold cover - 6360 039 (UK, Stereo, 1971)

Here is the 3rd Nucleus LP issued on the original UK Vertigo Spiral Swirl label. Great progressive jazz piece featuring a who’s who of the UK scene. In my opinion one of Ian Carr’s best and containing the fabulous 'Snakehips’ Dream' – surely one of the most cohesive examples of jazz/rock/funk fusion you’ll find!

This album is an obvious must-have for every Nucleus fan, as all there early albums are. This is also of major interest to any British progressive / jazz-rock fan or Vertigo 'Swirl' label collector.

The LP is an original VERTIGO pressing, cat.no.6360 039, UK 1st PRESS from 1971, and is VERY RARE!
