Description

  You are bidding on a VG+ nice copy of the 45 RPM release featuring:   Jim Flaherty's Caravan Vocal By Howie Stange    "Real Gone Daddy" bw "The Old Bomb Of Mine"     Label: Jenn 101     From the Jim Flaherty personal inventory at the Belmont Record Shop in Hartford, CT comes this classic original rockabilly recording. It is in very nice VG+ condition and plays perfectly well. Jim was co-manager of the Belmont Record Shop under owner Joe Cyr. Jim also was a nationally known C&W music expert, especially with 40s and 50s, western swing, rockabilly, and country catalogs. As a co-worker with Jim at the store I learned a lot from him and took some interesting phone calls for him from the national C&W scene. Many artists and label executives called him personally and he befriended many top artists via the shows he booked with shop owner Cyr at the Bushnell Auditorium in Hartford.  I remember taking a call for Jim from Conway Twitty in 1970 at the store and Jim told me to tell him he would call him back since he was on the phone with Lynn Anderson's people as they were asking for his reaction to a DJ copy of a 45 they sent Jim. It was "Rose Garden". Soon we had a hard time keeping the shelves stocked with that one. Twitty was inquiring about reaction to his "Fifteen Years Ago" on Decca. Both went #1 on C&W Charts. Jim knew Bill Haley since Haley played with a popular CT group called the Down Homers. He marvelled at the idea that a Michigan born and Pennsylvania developed C&W guy like Haley recorded perhaps the most celebrated record in the early history of what was called rock and roll. Rock was not Jim's forte and he shook his head when telling Bill Haley yarns. No discussion with Jim regarding his band or recordings would ever omit his tributes to the singers he backed in addition to Howie Stange specifically; Morey Dubois (Mell and Frankie label releases) and Lou Dee (Frankie label). I enjoyed Jim's quiet ways and thoughtful advice. Sadly, he left us on June 25, 1977 at the young age of 50. PayPal only please.  Winning bidder must pay within 5 days of auction closing.
