Rare Thomas L. Clear's anthology of transfers of rare 78 RPM and early audiotape recordings, the Historical Anthology of Chamber Music Volume II, Along with my seperate auction SEE AUGMENTED HISTORY OF THE VIOLIN, this is one of the last items from my personal collection i've decided to part with. Hope it finds a deserving new home for this copy and in part to determine what the open market considers to be a fair market value for this legendary set of transfers of historic  recordings. It surely will come as no surprise to those who have read this far into this description that copies of the Historical Anthology of Chamber Music Volume II from 78's has been offered on eBay at "Buy It Now" prices in the thousands.  Accordingly, if this set is a "Holy Grail," a legendary recording of which you have been trying to find a reasonably priced copy, a copy bought for a price set by supply and demand, in the auction room, this is your opportunity.

is the second in the series of recordings that Tom, who died on January 11th 2005 at the age of 83, published and sold on a mail order basis in the late 1970s.  (It is indeed sad that he foreswore his intention of publishing a similar anthology of organ recordings and never could be persuaded to change his mind.)

The Historical Anthology of Chamber Music was issued in a strictly limited edition, and even though additional copies of individual records do exist, all of these are in the possession of the Clear Estate.  Tom intended to sell (or give away, if it was the right person or institution) 250 copies, and only 250 copies, and he stuck to his word implacably.  He was concerned only with recovering the actual costs of publishing the set, and he cared nothing about being compensated for the value of his own time and expertise.  When they were released 31 years ago, they cost $10 a set, a price that was "bargain basement," even then.

This copy is just about as close to mint as you can get three decades after this set of LPs was privately published, and where else might you find a copy where the record look practically unplayed, BEAUTIFUL MINT CONDITION FOUR RECORD SET , NO MARKS AT ALL GREAT LUSTER. The Box is in VG+ condition a red catalog sticker in upper left. GOOD LUCK BIDDING ! I almost hate to part with thise set, as i know i'll never find another....

This set had inside a very old photo of CHARLES SANFORD SKILTON and it's signed/autographed, with his date of birth & death on back 1861-1941 as well as the Spivakovsky way of bowing. SKILTON WAS A VERY FAMOUS TEACHER OF MUSIC. Not sure why someone had his picture in this set.  maybe his children owned these sets.

I CAN GET UP TO 13 to 15 LPS IN PRIORITY FLATE RATE INTERNATIONAL BOX

With new post office rates 1-5 LPS has gone up but at least USPS is now allowing the Priority Flat Rate boxes to be used international. You are allowed up to 20 pounds and i was just able to fit 15 LPS in one. If there are thick gatefolds involved i might only fit 13. And this was of course after i boxed the 15 LPS in a professional record mailer before putting in USPS's Priority box so no worry about protection. For those outside the USA that like to buy multiple records to save on shipping this flat rate international box will help.
