Helen Merrill - Original EmArcy Pressing MG-36006 Helen Merrill - Original EmArcy Pressing
For auction is an original pressing of Helen Merrill's 1955 debut recording featuring Clifford Brown, Danny Banks, Jimmy Jones, Barry Galbraith, Osie Johnson, Bob Donaldson, Milton Hinton and Oscar Pettiford. All arrangements by Quincy Jones. The album has the blue Mercury logo and the EmArcy Jazz text. MG-36006 A & MG-36006 B. Made in USA.
The album is in very good condition with some light surface marks and minor surface noise - mainly low level static typical of vintage LP's. I would rate it as a VG to VG+ album and VG++ for the cover using the Goldmine standard. No warps (ruler flat) or significant damage and it plays well with few clicks and pops.
It has been cleaned with a VPI - HW - 17F record cleaner and has been placed in a modern anti-static sleeve. The album has been maintained in original condition outside of cleaning and a new anti-static sleeve. It will come with a 6 mil poly outer sleeve. Please refer to the detailed pictures for more information.
The cover is in very good shape without splits or major damage and the front image is in excellent shape. Some minor ring wear on the back. It could be removed if you clean it carefully. The original sleeve is also included. The previous owner wrote his initials on the LP label and the album cover but it is relatively minor and difficult to detect.
The album has been play tested on my reference system which consists of an SME 30/2 with Graham Phantom arm and Benz LP cartridge, Atma-Sphere MP-1 and MA-1 pre and power amps, and Soundlab A-1PX electrostatic loudspeakers. This auction is for the album only. Stereo system is not included. Sorry... When played on the system the album sounds full and the vocals are clear and beautiful. A wonderful vintage LP in good shape with plenty of warmth and detail featuring glorious female vocals and great jazz musicians. Enjoy!
