Description

ITEM DESCRIPTION:

This handsome LP – a superb collector's copy – from German RCA (LM-1976, German Teldec · Telefunken-Decca pressing, red/silver label – ED1, mono – no stereo edition exists, glossy stitched seam sleeve) features the finest possible pressing of Jascha Heifetz's commanding renditions of Bach's Sonata No. 1 for Solo Violin in G minor BWV 1001 and his Partita No. 2 for Solo Violin in D minor BWV 1004, with a truly exalted account of the mighty Chaconne, recorded at RCA Victor Studios, Hollywood, California in October 1952.

From a technical standpoint, Heifetz is well nigh flawless and although some continue to suggest that Heifetz was a cold or even a shallow musician, there is more than note-perfect spinning here and Heifetz's organizational powers and unflagging concentration, as well as the great purity of his playing, yield high dividends here and even if he is not your first choice, his performances deserve to be heard. There is no finer pressing than this early German red/silver RCA issue.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is EXCELLENT++. There is some minor edgewear and very slight bumping at corners as well as a small crease to the front panel. However, there are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings and the album remains very solid, bright, and glossy – overall, a very fine and very attractive collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is VERY GOOD. There is occasional light surface nosie and a few tics, though nothing repetitive or obtrusive. Those requiring a MINT or near-MINT copy are advised to look elsewhere. This is a very good collector's copy.
