Little Archie – “I Need You” b/w “I Am a Carpet” (Dial 4080). Great summer of 1968 release by the Soul artist Little Archie Himons from Huntington, West Virginia. e played drums and sang in various doo-wop and R & B groups in the late 50s and early 60s, recording for Fern and Lemco as part of the Magnificent 7 before coming to the attention of Dial owner Buddy Killen, who arranged a session at the AGP studios in Memphis. This is his second release and considered his strongest with “I Am a Carpet” being an excellent funk cut and “I Need You” a fine deep soul ballad. In the early 70s he started a blues band under the name of West Virginia Slim, and went on to found the quality roots reggae group Afrikan Dreamland in the 90s. He was also a member of the Cabell group, The Parliaments and wrote “This is My Rainy Day.” Take a listen to both sides. Record is a DJ copy in strong VG condition.
