Description

This is the original UK issue of Vertigo's second compilation album, with the small Vertigo spiral labels, the A//1 B//1 matrices and the early 1-1-2 1-1-2 stampers of the 1st presses.

This is the Vertigo's second compilation album released in September 1971. In part the brainchild of Patrick Campbell-Lyons of Nirvana, the concept of bringing together songs from acts that would otherwise not get heard. This resulted in five songs that can only be found on this album such as Legend's 'Froxfield Junction' or Lassoo's 'Brothers' and songs from acts such as Pete Atkin & Martin Carthy that were signed to other Philip's labels. Strangely enough it did not sell well and is rare today!

The Howards Printers Ltd textured gatefold sleeve is intact and in VG+ condition, with some light corner/edge wear and some light storage rubbing and discolouration/foxing on the outer cover. The spine is intact, discoloured and in VG+ condition. The plain company inner is intact and in VG+ condition.

The record is in visually VG+ condition, with a few faint sleeve removal hairlines and a few small needle marks and scuffs visible on each side. The labels are in EX condition, clean & bright with evidence of a couple of spindle markings on each side.

The sound reproduction is VG+ to EX, still clear & precise throughout with definately no skips, sticks or jumps, but there is some low background noise during the run in grooves and some low clicks and pops caused by the needle marks in several places, mostly on the quiet tracks on side 2 tracks 4 & 5 and briefly in places on side 1.
Overall, still a really good listen, that plays better than it looks.

The matrix nos. are; 6360045, A//1 stamper 1-1-2, B//1 stamper 1-1-2. This is one of the early copies of the 1st pressing of the original 1971 UK stereo issue of this album.
