Haymarket Square - Magic Lantern [1968 Original] Rare Chicago Psych Holy Grail

Up for auction today is one of the remaining copies of Haymarket Square's lost 1968 psych rock album Magic Lantern.

A small edition of 80-100 copies were privately pressed by Chapparel Records as a soundtrack to the Baron & Bailey Light Circus at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, Illinois. These do not turn up often and eBay is really the only opportunity to own one. Even copies in rough shape are very sought after, but if you’re reading this listing right now I’m sure you are very familiar.

This copy may well have come from the collection of a person associated with the label. Note the handwriting on the top back jacket and inclusion of another Chapparal LP by Gene Williams – no trace of this on the internet, but some cool instrumental country that is much more in line with everything else the label put out.

This is an above average copy to be offered for sale in the past few years, but does feature the flaw of a non-looping skip on A2. Read on for the detailed description of condition. I have sold high dollar records before with perfect feedback, so please ask any questions you have. I want the LP going to a good spot and want its buyer to feel great about his/her purchase of a fairly represented product!

Jacket is still a vibrant almost highlighter pink color. Paste on cover is still solid all around. Back cover just as vibrant, just as solid, but has slight darkening in spots as seen in the photo all the way to the right of the text. A completely gorgeous example of the jacket.

Vinyl is in good shape. This LP sounds great as a true 1968 original. Side A – Full luster, worst of the marks on this side. 5 light marks and 1 ugly one, though affect on play is minimal apart from the previously mentioned flaw and a couple loud pops. Side B – same shiny luster, very clean apart from a few stray light marks. Trying to be very clear as to not risk misrepresenting the album. Both Labels are extremely clean, bright, white. If you look very closely you will notice a few spindle marks.
